Finance & Legal · Lausanne / Hybrid / Remote · FullTime · Lead level
This is the first finance hire, so the person builds the function from scratch and runs it hands-on. The work covers forecasting, monthly close across a Swiss and a US entity, cash, gross margin, pricing, compliance, investor reporting and equipment financing. A strong candidate has helped scale a startup's finance, can build a model that links lab throughput and yield to cash, understands the costs of a physical business, and writes SQL or Python.
How it fits the AI era
The company expects most routine finance work, like reconciliation, the close and cash reporting, to be run through code and APIs, with Claude Code used across the team. That moves the person's time toward judgment calls such as pricing, where the margin floor sits, lease versus buy, and what to tell investors. Trust, discretion with sensitive numbers and the call on when to bring in outside accountants or advisers stay human.
How it builds AI experience
The role offers real practice in automating a whole finance function, since the ledger, billing, cards and payroll already have APIs to build on. It also means modelling a lab where AI agents order experiments, so cost per protein ties directly to AI-driven demand. Someone preparing could start by writing small scripts that pull accounting data and produce a cash view or margin report.
Worth showing
- Built a finance function early
- SQL and Python automation
- Gross margin and unit costing
- Swiss VAT and multi-entity close
