The Paul Scherrer Institute PSI is the largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences within Switzerland. We perform cutting‑edge research in the fields of future technologies, energy and climate, health innovation and fundamentals of nature. By performing fundamental and applied research, we work on sustainable solutions for major challenges facing society, science and economy. PSI is committed to the training of future generations. Therefore, about one quarter of our staff are post‑docs, post‑graduates or apprentices. Altogether, PSI employs 2,300 people. The position concerns the theory of digital‑analog quantum simulation — developing methods that extend the capabilities of programmable analog platforms using ideas from quantum computation, quantum algorithms, learning, and error mitigation. Possible directions include benchmarking quantum gates and gate primitives, developing quantum algorithms for many‑body simulation, designing probing and learning protocols, and devising error‑mitigation strategies for realistic digital‑analog simulation experiments. The position is embedded in the European QuantERA collaboration DigiAnaQSim with partners in Germany, France, and Spain, offering an active research network and opportunities to work with both theoretical and experimental partners. Postdoctoral Fellow in digital‑analog quantum simulation and quantum many‑body physics (Laboratory for Theoretical and Computational Physics). Job ID: 7201‑28457. Open until 1 July 2026; application deadline 22 July 2026. Your tasks
Conduct research in quantum information theory and quantum many‑body physics, with applications to quantum simulation and quantum computing. Develop theoretical frameworks and methods for digital‑analog quantum simulation in near‑term quantum devices, in particular ultracold atoms in optical lattices. Collaborate with experimental and theoretical partners across the European network. Publish research results in peer‑reviewed journals. Present research results at (inter‑)national conferences. Your profile
PhD degree in Physics or a closely related field. Strong research background in quantum information theory, quantum many‑body physics, quantum simulation, or related areas. Motivated, collaborative, and able to work effectively both independently and in a team environment. Programming experience and experience in analytical and numerical research. Good knowledge of English. We offer
Our institution is based on an interdisciplinary, innovative and dynamic collaboration. You will profit from systematic training on the job, in addition to personal development possibilities and our pronounced vocational training culture. If you wish to optimally combine work and family life or other personal interests, we are able to support you with modern employment conditions and on‑site infrastructure.
