The Paul Scherrer Institute PSI is the largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences within Switzerland. We perform cutting‑edge research in the fields of future technologies, energy and climate, health innovation and fundamentals of nature. By performing fundamental and applied research, we work on sustainable solutions for major challenges facing society, science and economy. PSI is committed to the training of future generations. Therefore, about one quarter of our staff are post‑docs, post‑graduates or apprentices. Altogether, PSI employs 2300 people.
For the Battery Materials and Diagnostics group we are looking for a Postdoctoral Fellow in Zero‑Excess Lithium Anode Sulfide‑Based All‑Solid‑State Batteries.
Application deadline:
31 July 2026 .
Your tasks
Develop and optimize zero‑excess (anode‑free) lithium metal sulfide‑based all‑solid‑state batteries ASSBs for high‑energy‑density and safe applications
Design and investigate current collector and interface engineering strategies, including thin‑film surface modifications and protective interlayers to improve lithium plating/stripping reversibility
Develop and optimize wet‑slurry processing routes for the fabrication of sulfide‑based composite cathodes and the manufacturing of multilayer pouch‑cell ASSBs
Perform comprehensive electrochemical characterization, including cyclic voltammetry, galvanostatic cycling, EIS, critical current density and Coulombic efficiency measurements
Publish research findings in high‑impact peer‑reviewed journals
Present results at international conferences and project meetings within the framework of collaborative industrial and academic research projects
Your profile
PhD degree in Electrochemistry, Materials Science, Inorganic Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or a closely related field
Proven hands‑on experience with lithium metal and sulfide‑based all‑solid‑state batteries ASSBs
Strong expertise in the assembly, testing, and analysis of coin‑ and pouch‑type ASSBs cells
Experience with materials and electrochemical characterization techniques
Demonstrated scientific publication record in the field of batteries or energy‑storage materials
Excellent communication skills and a strong command of spoken and written English
We offer Our institution is based on an interdisciplinary, innovative and dynamic collaboration. You will profit from systematic training on the job, in addition to personal development possibilities and our pronounced vocational training culture. If you wish to optimally combine work and family life or other personal interests, we are able to support you with our modern employment conditions and the on‑site infrastructure.
