The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Lead Electrical Specialist – Offshore Substation (OSS) Topsides to join a growing Offshore Wind engineering delivery team.

Working across a range of complex offshore substation projects, you will take technical responsibility for key electrical elements of the Topsides scope, providing leadership across EHV/HV systems and supporting multidisciplinary project delivery.

This position would suit an experienced electrical engineering specialist with strong offshore wind, offshore substation, transmission or major infrastructure experience who is comfortable leading technical teams and acting as an authority within their discipline.

Key Responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

• Acting as the technical authority and primary interface for electrical systems within the Topsides scope, providing technical leadership and ensuring alignment across the electrical discipline.
• Leading the EHV/HV technical scope, including design basis, technical specifications, calculations, equipment selection and design reviews.
• Taking technical responsibility for equipment including transformers, GIS/AIS, reactive compensation systems and associated high-voltage equipment.
• Coordinating multidisciplinary interfaces across HV/EHV, auxiliary electrical systems, structural, mechanical, telecoms, SCADA, safety and commissioning disciplines to ensure an integrated design.
• Overseeing electrical protection, control and grid-interface systems, including SCADA, metering and associated technical requirements.
• Providing technical guidance for earthing, lightning protection, EMC, auxiliary AC/DC systems, UPS and electrical safety solutions.
• Reviewing and managing technical deliverables throughout the supply chain, including supplier documentation, technical deviations, calculations, drawings and design deliverables.
• Driving the timely resolution of technical issues and ensuring engineering activities meet project requirements.
• Supporting clients, certification bodies, contractors and other project stakeholders through technical clarifications, risk reviews and engineering assurance activities.
• Providing electrical engineering expertise throughout tendering, procurement, fabrication, installation, testing and commissioning activities.
• Promoting engineering best practice, capturing lessons learned and supporting continuous improvement across future projects.
• Supporting and mentoring electrical engineering colleagues while contributing to the continued development of technical capabilities within the team.

Experience & Qualifications

The successful candidate will ideally have:

• A degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Significant professional experience working with HV/EHV electrical systems.
• Strong experience within offshore substations, offshore wind, transmission or other complex energy and infrastructure projects.
• A strong technical understanding of Offshore Substation Topsides electrical systems and associated multidisciplinary interfaces.
• Experience gained within a developer, EPC contractor, OEM, fabrication yard, engineering consultancy or similar project environment.
• Strong practical expertise in electrical system design, technical specifications, vendor documentation and multidisciplinary design reviews.
• Previous experience leading or managing electrical engineering teams on complex international projects.
• Strong technical knowledge of:
• Transformers
• GIS/AIS
• Protection and control systems
• SCADA interfaces
• Earthing systems
• EMC
• Auxiliary AC/DC systems
• UPS systems
• Electrical safety systems
• Good knowledge of relevant international standards, offshore regulations and grid-code requirements, including applicable IEC and DNV standards.
• A strong understanding of electrical safety and grid compliance principles.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical matters into clear decisions and actions.
• The ability to collaborate effectively with clients, project teams, contractors, suppliers, certification bodies and relevant authorities.
• Professional working proficiency in English and the ability to operate effectively within international, multidisciplinary project teams.
