  • Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Tender Project Manager to manage the complete tender process for Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) projects within the grid solutions sector.

The successful candidate will lead the preparation and delivery of assigned proposals, ensuring high-quality, commercially competitive and technically compliant submissions for projects across global markets.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • At least five years of project management or tender management experience.
  • Experience supporting transmission projects within the energy sector.
  • FACTS or HVDC experience would be highly advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of technical, commercial and contractual project management.
  • Experience presenting and reporting to senior management.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams across multiple countries.
  • Ability to develop strong working relationships across engineering, procurement, commercial, contractual and project management departments.
  • Strong leadership, decision-making and organisational skills.
  • Commercially focused, with a proactive and competitive approach to tendering.
  • Ability to make independent decisions and provide recommendations to management.
  • Professional attitude and commitment to collaborative working.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Fluent English is essential; German would be advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the complete tender and bid process for assigned FACTS and grid transmission proposals.
  • Lead tender preparation activities with the objective of securing high-quality project orders across global markets.
  • Support Technical Sales and Business Development teams with pre-qualification documentation, requests for information and formal tender submissions.
  • Review invitations to tender, technical specifications and customer documentation to establish project requirements and commercial drivers.
  • Coordinate tender activities across engineering, procurement, commercial, contractual and project management functions.
  • Prepare high-quality proposal and tender documentation.
  • Develop a competitive bid strategy in collaboration with Technical Sales and Business Development teams.
  • Define and agree the scope, schedule and cost of all internal tender deliverables.
  • Maintain clear visibility of tender progress, deadlines, responsibilities and outstanding actions.
  • Lead the bid team and ensure all deliverables are completed in accordance with tender requirements.
  • Chair or participate in tender coordination, progress and review meetings.
  • Manage supplier, subcontractor and consortium partner enquiries.
  • Attend customer clarification meetings, presentations and site visits where required.
  • Review and clarify internal and external supplier or subcontractor submissions.
  • Ensure all technical, commercial and contractual interfaces are properly coordinated.
  • Produce tender price calculations using approved internal calculation tools.
  • Compile internal cost estimates, supplier quotations, subcontractor pricing, margins and commercial recoveries.
  • Ensure tender pricing is realistic, robust and competitive.
  • Ensure risk assessments are completed and appropriate mitigation measures are included within the proposal.
  • Accurately model project cash flow and economic value.
  • Recommend suitable payment terms to maximise commercial returns.
  • Ensure internal estimates are reviewed and approved by the relevant functional stakeholders.
  • Ensure external costs are supported by valid and competitive fixed-price quotations.
  • Capture and apply lessons learned from previous tenders and project delivery.
  • Prepare tender approval documentation, including calculation sheets, cash-flow models, procurement schedules, approval limits and risk registers.
  • Obtain internal management approval in accordance with applicable governance and authorisation procedures.
  • Compile final proposal documentation and ensure submissions comply with customer requirements and instructions.
  • Follow up on tender submissions with Technical Sales and Business Development teams.
  • Assess the organisation’s competitive position and address any gaps in the proposal.
  • Manage customer clarification requests and tender amendments professionally and within the required timescales.
  • Maintain an accurate tender clarification and questionnaire log.
  • Lead customer tender negotiations, presentations and commercial discussions.
  • Ensure purchase orders and contracts received are consistent with the submitted tender offer.
  • Prepare the required documentation for handover from tendering to project execution.
  • Complete lost-order analysis in collaboration with the customer, Technical Sales and Key Account Management teams.
  • Establish and monitor tender budgets.
  • Develop strong working relationships with internal stakeholders, suppliers, subcontractors and consortium partners.
  • Maintain excellent customer relationships at all organisational levels.
  • Keep management informed of tender progress, key risks, changes and major developments.
  • Ensure all activities are conducted professionally, ethically and in accordance with internal procedures and governance requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement and operational excellence programmes.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of business objectives and strategic priorities.
  • Provide cover and support for other Tender Managers when required.

Role Summary

The Tender Project Manager will take ownership of the complete bid process for assigned FACTS and grid transmission opportunities.

The role requires close collaboration with technical, commercial, contractual, procurement and project delivery teams to produce competitive and compliant proposals.

The successful candidate will manage tender strategy, pricing, risk, cash flow, supplier engagement, customer clarification, negotiation and internal approval before handing successful projects over to the execution team.
