Position Summary

The Chemical Mechanical Planarization manufacturing business is seeking a Site Manufacturing Technology Leader at the site in Newark, Delaware. The CMP facilities consist of polymer manufacturing, film coating, and numerous converting operations such as buffing, grooving and finishing. The role is accountable for the technical health of those operations: process capability, yield, uptime, capacity, and leading solutions aligned with the technology roadmap that keeps the site competitive.

The Site Manufacturing Technology Leader is a working leader. The position combines people leadership of the site Manufacturing Technology Execution group with personal technical ownership of the site's most consequential process and equipment problems. Success is measured by safe and compliant operation, delivered process improvements, effective basic data for capital project support, and the depth of technical capability built in the team over time. The role reports to the Director, Manufacturing Technology Execution and works closely with the Site Leadership Team, Operations, Maintenance, Quality, and the business R&D organization.

This position manages the objectives and performance of the Newark CMP Manufacturing Technology Execution organization, including direct and indirect reports. The group is a multi-disciplined team of engineers that delivers the technology and process capability needed to safely operate, maintain, and improve the manufacturing operations. The role aligns site programs and activities with business strategy and provides the manufacturing and quality improvements necessary to compete in high-growth, fast-paced markets. The role provides technology ownership while partnering with Operations on execution and Site Engineering on engineered solutions.

Key Responsibilities

People and Organizational Leadership

  • Lead the site Manufacturing Technology Execution organization, including engineers and technical specialists supporting site operations.

  • Set technical priorities for the group and balance resources across improvement work, capital support, troubleshooting, and daily operational demand.

  • Renew, retain, and develop the technical competency of the site engineering resources; mentor and coach engineers at all levels of experience.

  • Work with stakeholders to create a prioritized annual execution plan in support of the site technology roadmap.

  • Serve as a member of the Site Leadership Team and represent Manufacturing Technology in site governance, staffing, and business reviews.

  • Leverage capability from other sites, corporate engineering functions, and contractor partners where site resources are insufficient.

  • Provide mentoring and support to the Run Plant Engineers within CMP, who report through the Operations team with a dotted-line relationship to the Site Manufacturing Technology Leader.

  • Interface with key business leaders to resolve issues and reconcile competing priorities.

  • Coordinate the leveraging of manufacturing technology resources across the site and the broader organization to improve effectiveness.

Technical and Manufacturing Leadership

  • Provide technical expertise and direction that improves competitive advantage in the manufacturing of CMP pads, spanning incremental improvements through major technology changes.

  • Drive process improvements that benefit yield, quality, uptime, and capacity, and hold the team accountable for measurable results.

  • Partner with operations on root cause analysis for complex manufacturing problems, and personally lead resolution of the most critical issues through the team.

  • Drive technical improvements through the broader Manufacturing Technology team, both through continuous improvement projects and capital projects, for pad manufacturing tools and modules.

  • Support the EHS organization with investigations and action items, and ensure Manufacturing Technology work meets Process Safety Management requirements.

  • Provide technical expertise for Management of Change, including acting as a technical reviewer within the site MOC process.

  • Own the qualification of new equipment and the technical plans for commissioning, decommissioning, start-up, and shutdown activities.

  • Partner with the Automation Center of Excellence to swiftly drive and own the implementation of the selected Equipment Automation projects for the site.

  • Ensure compliance to PSM programs and systems in-line with corporate standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Work closely with business and site manufacturing teams to define improvement goals across safety, asset productivity, and quality, and lead technical resources to meet them.

Capital and Project Support

  • Develop and approve basic data for capital improvement projects, working with vendors, site engineering, and business partners.

  • Represent the technology position in Statements of Work, design reviews, acceptance tests, commissioning, and safety reviews.

  • Partner with the Site Engineering Leader on capital portfolio planning so that the project list reflects the site's technology priorities.

  • Own the technology workstream of selected projects from concept through turnover to the end user, holding accountability for scope, cost, schedule, and installed quality.

  • Develop the site's five-year capital improvement plan, work with capital engineering and business partners to fold into the Global CMP five-year capital plan, and upon approval support execution of the Newark specific projects within it.

  • Work with the business, marketing, and Integrated Operations teams to define, prioritize, manage, and execute major and minor capital improvement projects against business objectives.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in an appropriate engineering or science field (Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical).

  • 10+ years of previous manufacturing experience, including technical leadership in an industrial plant.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills supervising a team, either as a direct supervisor or as a technical team leader.

  • Demonstrated ability to apply technical knowledge to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex equipment and process issues, or to help others do so.

Preferred qualifications

  • Industrial plant experience working with PSM critical processes and systems.

  • Experience in equipment automation, polymer manufacturing, film coating, or web and discrete converting operations.

  • Six Sigma Green Belt or equivalent structured problem-solving certification.

  • Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple complex, time-sensitive projects.

  • Demonstrated ability to teach, coach, mentor, and develop others in a team-based environment.

  • Demonstrated skill in team building and achieving results through influence and negotiation.

Core Competencies

  • Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical and chemical processes and methodologies applicable to a manufacturing operation.

  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to motivate others to achieve results.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, both to network across the business and to lead a technical team effectively.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and a high-volume workload with shifting and competing priorities.

  • Understanding of Six Sigma methodology and working experience with Process Safety Management.
