Why us?
RABOT Energy is on a mission to make green energy easy, smart, and accessible. As we scale, our engineering teams are at the heart of turning this mission into reality—developing high-performing, reliable systems that power our digital energy platform.
We\’re now looking for a hands-on, people-first Engineering Manager to take ownership of our Operations team—a backend-focused team working on mission-critical systems that keep everything running smoothly. You’ll be responsible for the growth and performance of a team of 8 backend engineers split between Hamburg and Berlin.
If you’re passionate about technology, motivated by helping people grow, and excited by the pace and challenges of an ambitious startup—this could be your next chapter.
Your Impact
- You will lead the technical re-architecture of legacy systems, shaping the foundation for how Rabot manages its core energy operations in the years to come.
- You’ll be expected to drive clarity and prioritization in ambiguous environments, making tough trade-offs while keeping both customer impact and long-term technical health in mind.
- Lead, support, and grow a team of backend engineers working on operational systems critical to our platform.
- Build a strong team culture around ownership, quality, and technical curiosity.
- Collaborate with Product, Tech Leads, and other Engineering Managers to deliver scalable solutions that meet business and customer needs.
- Drive hiring efforts and team growth, supporting the onboarding and development of new engineers.
- Be a sparring partner for technical decisions and architecture discussions.
- Own the delivery, quality, and long-term maintainability of the systems your team builds, while actively ensuring team health and psychological safety
- Working in a fast-paced setting where priorities can shift quickly.
What Can You Bring
Leadership & Collaboration
- Experience leading teams through large-scale refactors, migrations, or re-architecture efforts.
- Strong coaching mindset—you help people grow and unlock their potential.
- Clear communicator who can align teams and foster collaboration across functions.
- Experience hiring, performance management, and growing high-performing teams.
- You create an environment where people can take risks, learn from failure, and continuously improve.
Technical Background
- Solid foundation in backend engineering—bonus if you\’re familiar with C#/.NET and cloud technologies (e.g., GCP or Azure).
- Experience working closely with cross-functional teams in a product development context.
- You bring a strong architectural perspective and can challenge or guide technical decisions at the right level of abstraction – even if you’re not hands-on daily.
Mindset & Values
- You’re passionate about building great products and scalable systems.
- You’re driven by data and outcomes—you help your team focus on impact.
- You’re curious, a bit nerdy (in the best way), and excited about continuous learning.
- Comfortable working in an agile environment and adapting to change.
Nice To Have
- Experience with .NET and cloud-native backend systems (e.g., Azure, Docker, Kubernetes)
- Leading teams through technical transitions (e.g., service decomposition, data model refactoring)
- Experience working on billing, metering, or market data systems in energy or utilities
- German language skills (optional but helpful for stakeholder collaboration)
What Success Looks Like (6–12 Months)
- Your team has stabilized key operational systems, with a clear roadmap for long-term architectural health.
- You\’ve built strong cross-functional relationships with Product, Data, and Ops, aligning on shared outcomes.
- The team feels focused, energized, and accountable. Psychological safety is high and velocity is steadily improving.
- You’ve helped your engineers establish individual career paths into more senior roles by giving them stretch opportunities and active coaching.
- You’ve introduced better operational processes and tech health reviews.
Our Benefits
- Enjoy flexible working hours and the freedom to work remotely, offering you a work-life balance that suits your lifestyle, even from the comfort of your home.
- We\’re committed to your growth. Benefit from comprehensive training, regular team meetings, and open, transparent communication to keep you informed and engaged.
- Maintain your physical well-being with an Urban Sports Club membership that offers you a world of fitness opportunities.
- Immerse yourself in a vibrant startup atmosphere, where a spirited team, exciting team events, and our \’Employees Recruit Employees\‘ program await you – your path to rewarding success.
- Celebrate the holidays with peace of mind, as you\’ll always have Christmas Eve and New Year\’s Eve off to make cherished memories.
- Workation: Enjoy two weeks of workation per year and work from anywhere in the EU.
For all our positions, we are open to providing flexible work arrangements to accommodate the unique needs of everyone.
