The Athletic Trainer U17 leads the planning, delivery, monitoring, and progression of athletic development within the U17 age group. The role focuses on preparing players for the physical demands of elite football while supporting their development towards U19 and professional football environments.

Working closely with football coaches, medical staff, analysts, and performance practitioners, the role integrates gym-based and pitch-based athletic development within the academy's LTAD and periodisation frameworks. The Athletic Trainer is responsible for enhancing physical performance, managing training loads, monitoring development, and creating an environment that promotes accountability, resilience, and long-term player growth.

Success in this role requires strong technical expertise, effective communication, data-informed decision-making, and the ability to align physical development programmes with the wider performance objectives of the academy.

Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan and deliver structured gym- and pitch-based athletic development programmes aligned with academy LTAD principles, player needs, and team objectives
  • Design, implement, and progress football-specific physical development interventions targeting strength, power, speed, movement quality, mobility, and athletic performance
  • Monitor and analyse player performance data, including testing, GPS, wellness, RPE, and training load information to support decision-making
  • Coordinate and deliver physical testing programmes, ensuring accurate data collection, reporting, benchmarking, and application within player development plans
  • Collaborate closely with football coaches, medical staff, and multidisciplinary practitioners to align athletic development with overall player performance goals
  • Maintain accurate documentation and reporting, including player profiles, development plans, testing results, and performance interventions
  • Support player education and accountability, developing understanding of recovery, nutrition, physical preparation, and performance habits
  • Engage in continuous professional development and contribute to the ongoing evolution of athletic development practices across the academy

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree in Strength & Conditioning, Sports Science, Exercise Science, or a related discipline (essential)
  • Accredited Strength & Conditioning qualification (UKSCA, CSCS, or equivalent) desirable
  • Experience using athlete monitoring systems, GPS technologies, testing platforms, and performance management software
  • Experience working within athletic development, strength and conditioning, or performance support in elite youth and/or professional sport environments
  • Strong understanding of long-term athletic development, football physical demands, training load management, and performance enhancement principles
  • Ability to design and deliver high-quality gym- and pitch-based athletic development programmes for adolescent athletes
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret testing, monitoring, and performance data to support player development
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships across multidisciplinary teams
  • High level of organisational ability with consistent standards in planning, administration, reporting, and data management
  • Collaborative mindset with a commitment to interdisciplinary working and player-centred decision-making
  • Demonstrates initiative, adaptability, reflective practice, and a commitment to continuous learning and professional development
  • Bi-lingual or multi-lingual capabilities (desirable)
