Job Scope
This position is required to strengthen packaging engineering capacity for PPWR-related activities, packaging data management, portfolio screening, and cross-functional project execution.
The role will act as a key interface between Packaging Development and its stakeholders, potentially involving SPS, Biologicals, F&P, testing activities.
The position requires 3-5 years of packaging engineering experience, strong data management capability, and project coordination skills to maintain overview, ensure interconnection between workstreams, and support compliant implementation of packaging-related requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate packaging development activities and project deliverables, ensuring milestones, timelines, and objectives are achieved.
Identify potential risks and implement effective mitigation strategies.
- Translate product and business requirements into practical packaging solutions by applying expertise in packaging materials, manufacturing technologies, and engineering principles.
- Generate innovative packaging concepts with a strong customer focus, evaluating opportunities and potential challenges, and validating concepts through pilot trials and prototype testing.
- Monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, and innovations from adjacent industries to identify opportunities for packaging advancement and continuous improvement.
- Ensure all packaging designs comply with regional regulations, transportation requirements for dangerous goods, and applicable legal standards.
- Champion Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) standards and ensure all activities comply with company policies, procedures, and legal obligations.
Act as a role model for safe working practices.
- Collaborate closely with Packaging Development, Formulation Development, Formulation Engineering, Analytical Sciences, Application teams, and Logistics to deliver optimal packaging solutions and product performance.
- Build and maintain productive relationships with external partners, including suppliers, research institutions, and universities, to support innovation and scientific advancement.
- Independently prioritize and manage workload, proactively identifying resource requirements and seeking support where necessary to achieve project objectives.
- Prepare project cost estimates, evaluate supplier quotations, and monitor expenditures against approved budgets.
- Support operational excellence initiatives by following established standards and actively contributing to process improvement activities.
- Budget and revenue responsibility: typically CHF 10,000 to CHF 50,000.
- Project portfolio: up to five packaging development projects annually.
- Planning horizon: 6 to 12 months.
Business Impact
- Develop and execute packaging qualification protocols and studies, recommending acceptance criteria and supporting packaging validation activities.
- Apply packaging and filling process knowledge to design and qualification activities while collaborating with Fill & Pack Engineering specialists when required.
- Create, maintain, and continuously improve packaging master data throughout the product lifecycle while supporting data quality and user adoption.
- Conduct packaging quality assessments and verification activities to ensure compliance with specifications and proactively address deviations or non-conformances.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Packaging Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Equivalent professional qualifications and relevant industry experience will also be considered
- Experience leading packaging development projects.
- Ideally 1-2+ years of packaging development experience within a regulated manufacturing environment.
- Experience working with cross-functional stakeholders and external suppliers.
- Knowledge of packaging qualification, quality control, and packaging lifecycle management.
