The Secretariat of the WTO is seeking a Research Economist, Grade 8, to work in the Applied Economic Research Section of the Economic Research and Statistics Division. Annual Salary: CHF120,948.00. Contract: Fixed‑term, two years with possibility of extension. Produce and/or coordinate economic and policy related research and analysis projects in the substantive areas of the Division's work, including, as required, contributions to the preparation of the World Trade Report and other expert analytical reports. Provide economic expertise, upon request, to other parts of the Secretariat, including in the context of dispute settlement. Contribute to the Division's expertise in specific trade areas related to current economic developments, particularly through empirical analysis and the interpretation of theoretical models of trade in general and of trade agreements in particular. Experience with quantitative trade and trade policy modelling such as structural gravity models would be an advantage. Maintain technical knowledge and skills, including drafting skills, and develop policy skills and knowledge of WTO Agreements. Stay abreast of relevant research in the field. Undertake technical assistance activities and training on substantive areas of the Division's work. Contribute to the design of training activities and development of training material. Coach and mentor more junior staff. Help keep the Division, other parts of the Secretariat or the broader trade policy community abreast of relevant developments in research, including through participation in the organisation of seminars, workshops or conferences. Represent the WTO in external fora, including the media, and collaborate with other institutions. Participate in and contribute to other activities of the Division. Required Qualifications
Education:
A PhD degree in Economics is required; a specialization in international trade would be an advantage. Knowledge and Skills:
Excellent knowledge of international trade theory, empirical research methodologies, and WTO Agreements. Proven policy‑oriented research record, quantitative outputs supporting trade policy analyses, drafting skills, presentation skills. Proficiency in econometric software such as STATA and experience with AI tools. Behavioural Skills:
Build relationships, communicate information clearly, persuade using facts, present technical information to specialised audiences, handle conflict, work independently and as part of a team. Organisational Competencies:

Minimum five years of relevant experience, which may include academic work. Languages:
