The University Library of Würzburg has a vacancy as soon as possible for a position for a computer scientist (f/m/d, 100%) to be filled. The position is initially temporary for a period of one year, with the aim of working together on a permanent basis.

The advertised position is remunerated according to TV-L. If the requirements under collective bargaining law are met, a classification up to TV-L E13 is possible.

As a university library and scientific educational and cultural institution for Lower Franconia, Würzburg University Library supports digitization in research, teaching and studies. It actively and innovatively shapes the media and information offer for its users. To this end, the reliable operation of the existing IT infrastructure (library management system, workflow systems, portal and presentation systems, etc.) must be ensured and new digital services developed and implemented. In the near future, the migration to a new library system and the development of new user interfaces are on the agenda. In addition, there will be work on AI applications and the evaluation of their potential use in the library sector. The position can be individually tailored to the skills of the applicant.

Your Tasks

  • Collaboration in the planning, expansion and operation of modern IT architectures
  • User-oriented further development of existing web portals
  • Collaboration in the selection and implementation of content management and discovery systems
  • Collaboration in working groups for the introduction of the FOLIO library system, in cooperation with the Central Office and other user libraries of the Bavarian Library Network
  • Support in the analysis and processing of complex IT problems in an academic environment
  • Carrying out administrative tasks on the central server infrastructure

Your Profile

  • You have a degree in computer science or a comparable subject; alternatively, you have proven, equivalent skills and experience in the relevant job profile
  • You have very good knowledge and practical experience in at least two of the following areas:
  • Java, Javascript and Java FX
  • Typo3, (S)CSS, HTML
  • MariaDB
  • Knowledge of bibliographic data formats and their machine processing including XML (e.g. MARCXML, TEI)
  • AI (LLM, deep learning, artificial neural networks)
  • Usability and user experience design
  • App programming
  • Container solutions as well as NoSQL databases, semantic technologies (Linked Open Data, Simple Knowledge Organization) and version management systems (e.g. Git)
  • Administration of IT systems based on Linux operating systems
  • Proven programming skills in at least one language, preferably PHP, are an advantage
  • Communication and teamwork skills, ability to work independently and responsibly

In principle, the position is part-time, provided that 100% performance of the tasks is ensured through job sharing.
