We're partnering with a fast-growing German B2B SaaS company developing a successful digital platform used by businesses across Europe.

The company has an established product and is entering its next phase of growth, with an expanding engineering organisation and ambitious plans to scale its technology platform.

Despite its growth, the business maintains a fast-moving, entrepreneurial culture with short decision-making paths, direct access to senior leadership and significant ownership.

The Role

As Head of Software Engineering, you'll take responsibility for multiple engineering teams, leading both technical leaders and individual contributors.

This is not a purely managerial position. You'll combine people leadership, technology and strategy, remaining close enough to the engineering to influence architecture and key technical decisions.

You'll have significant freedom to shape the engineering organisation, develop future leaders and influence how the technology function scales.

What You'll Be Doing

• Lead and develop multiple software engineering teams
• Manage and mentor Engineering / Technical Leads and individual contributors
• Build clear career progression and development structures for engineers
• Work closely with senior technology and product leadership on engineering strategy
• Influence architecture and complex technical decisions
• Help evolve a modern, scalable microservices architecture
• Define and improve engineering standards across quality, reliability and maintainability
• Identify and strategically reduce technical debt
• Improve engineering processes and software delivery
• Balance technical quality with commercial priorities and speed of execution
• Play an active role in shaping the company's longer-term technology direction

What We're Looking For

• 8+ years of professional software development experience
• Strong track record in software engineering leadership
• Experience managing both technical leaders and individual engineers
• Experience building and scaling high-performing engineering teams
• Strong technical background within JavaScript / Node.js
• Good understanding of microservices and scalable software architecture
• Experience with technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, NoSQL, caching and modern web infrastructure
• Strong understanding of modern software engineering and agile development practices
• Experience establishing engineering standards and reducing technical debt
• Strong mentoring and people-development skills
• Comfortable operating within a fast-paced product / scale-up environment
• Strong communication skills and confidence working with senior leadership
• Fluent German and English
