Building Control Inspector

You need to be a Class 2 Registered Building Inspector.

You will play a key role in delivering a high-quality, robust and legally compliant Building Control Authority that helps protect the health, safety and welfare of people in and around buildings across Richmond and Wandsworth.

You will assess building regulation applications, carry out site inspections and provide clear, proportionate professional advice, ensuring that development complies with the Building Act 1984, Building Regulations and associated legislation.

In this role, you will manage a varied caseload of projects, working across both boroughs as required, and contribute to a responsive and customer-focused service.

You will work collaboratively with applicants, agents, contractors and internal stakeholders, while maintaining appropriate regulatory independence and acting in wider public interest.

You will also be responsible for identifying and addressing non-compliant work, supporting enforcement activity where necessary, and ensuring accurate records are maintained to support audit, legal processes and transparency.

As a registered Building Inspector, you will operate within your level of competence in accordance with the Building Safety Regulator requirements and Code of Conduct, maintaining your professional development and contributing to a service that is recognised for quality, integrity and continuous improvement.

About the role

You will be responsible for delivering a high-quality and legally compliant Building Control service, ensuring that building work across Richmond and Wandsworth complies with the Building Act 1984, the Building Regulations and associated legislation.

The role is focused on protecting the health, safety and welfare of the public, providing assurance that developments meet the required statutory standards and are safe for occupation and use.

You will undertake the assessment of building regulation applications and carry out site inspections at appropriate stages of construction, exercising professional judgement within your level of competence.

The role requires the provision of clear, proportionate and impartial advice to applicants, designers and contractors, while maintaining appropriate regulatory boundaries and acting at all times in the wider public interest.

You will manage a varied caseload, identifying and addressing non-compliant work and supporting enforcement action where necessary to secure compliance.

This includes maintaining accurate and auditable records, contributing to responses to complaints and enquiries, and supporting legal processes where required.

As a Registered Building Inspector, you will operate in accordance with the Building Safety Regulator requirements and Code of Conduct, ensuring that your work aligns with the Building Inspector Competence Framework.

You will also be expected to undertake continuous professional development and contribute to the ongoing improvement of the service, supporting a culture of quality, transparency and accountability.

You must be aware of the Building Control service delivery standards.

You must be conversant with the requirements of the Building Acts and Regulations and associated legislation.

Be able to work with minimum supervision, organising daily work programmes, including plans examination work to meet statutory deadlines.

You must have passed the associated classification with BSR
