For our customer a big pharmaceutical company in Basel we are looking for a highly qualified RNA biologist – Bioformatician
Background:
We are seeking a highly motivated and creative scientist to join the RNA Technologies Group in the Nucleic Acid based Medicine (NABM) Department at Roche. The focus of the position is to build and develop novel therapeutic approaches in the gene therapy space by using high-throughput and next generation sequencing (NGS) methods.
The perfect candidate:
The perfect candidate has a PhD in Molecular biology with a focus on RNA biology and silico design of genetic elements. Any additional industry experience is a plus. Candidates should be confident in handling NGS datasets.
Tasks & Responsibilities:**
You bring deep scientific RNA and computational biology expertise as a key member of project teams.
- You develop in silico and/or wet lab technologies to design, screen and analyze genetically encoded transgenes with various modes of actions, such as splice modification, RNA knockdown, RNA and DNA editing, and tunable transgene expression.
- You facilitate our understanding of RNA (sequence and structure-based) as a target and as a therapeutic modality (shRNA, gRNA, ribozymes, etc) for viral and non-viral gene therapies.
*You generate ideas for innovative ways to modulate gene expression, as well as ideas for testing novel therapeutic mechanisms. - You develop nurturing trustful relationships and effective collaboration with internal and external partners
*You have strong oral and written communication skills, and are proficient in working with cross-functional and multidisciplinary teams
Must Haves:
PhD in molecular biology, genetics/genomics, computational biology, or related fields.
- Deep expertise in RNA biology and/or synthetic biology, ideally in the field of gene therapy and RNA therapeutics.
- Strong experience with the in silico design of genetic elements and expression cassettes, coupled to bioinformatics analysis of high-throughput screening and NGS datasets.
- A proven scientific-track record through impactful publications in relevant fields, patents, or substantial contributions to drug development programs
- Fluent in English – verbal and written
- Proficiency in using Python and R/Bioconductor
- Experience in bash scripting and working in Linux and HPC environment
- Proficiency in data analysis and machine learning techniques (clustering, generalized linear models, data visualization, data mining and reporting, generative AI)
