The Position The Asset Administration Shell (AAS) is a fundamental concept in the digitalization of industrial systems, aligning with the vision of Industry 4.0. It represents a standardized digital twin for physical assets, allowing a seamless interface between physical systems and the digital world. The AAS encapsulates all relevant information about an asset, including its state, behavior, and lifecycle data, creating an interoperable and machine-readable profile of the asset. Implementing the AAS concept in a synthetic molecules production facility enables improved data integration, analytics, and automation across processes. This digital twin‑like structure enhances operational transparency, supports predictive maintenance, and improves production efficiency by ensuring real‑time access to asset information across various systems and stakeholders. The AAS also fosters interoperability, ensuring that different components, equipment, and IT systems can easily exchange and process asset‑related data.
