What we do
We build software that helps companies along the food system get to Net Zero.
~31% of global GHG emissions originate from food-related activities. For the first time in history, climate performance has become an overall business performance indicator. Enterprises are mandated by regulatory bodies to disclose their climate performance, which leads to increasing pressure from investors, competitors, retailers, and consumers to prevent and reduce their CO2e emissions. Over the next 10 years, companies have set ambitious reduction targets that need to be met. Enterprise software and new business processes can help.
We raised >€10m in funding in the first 2 years of our existence, we launched our enterprise product, signed and onboarded some of the largest F&B players in Europe, and put together what we believe is the best-suited early stage tech team in Europe. Will you be the next to join us?
What you will work on
Over the next 12 months you will:
-
Help farms reduce their CO2e emissions
-
Research on-farm emission reduction measures ranging from regenerative agriculture measures to innovative feed additives
-
Quantify reduction potential and cost-effectiveness of new emission reduction measures and integrate them into our farm calculators
-
Introduce robust Land Use Change (LUC) and Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) models backed by thorough scientific proof
-
Partner with companies that offer innovative farm-level emission reduction solutions
-
-
Act as gatekeeper of our carbon methodology
-
Develop, adapt, and implement models for measuring and predicting CO2e stored in soil and originating from land use change
-
Stay ahead of evolving regulatory and market requirements (GHG Protocol Land Sector and Removals Guidance, SBTi FLAG Guidance)
-
Drive certification efforts for Land Use Change, Soil Carbon Sequestration, and Removals.
-
Represent our company at key conferences and working groups as a thought leader.
-
-
Co-shape our new software product
-
Collaborate with farmers and tech teams to design user-centric tools for on-farm CO2 reduction and removals.
-
Pilot and refine models/products through direct farmer and technician feedback.
-
Ensure our solutions deliver measurable, scalable, and impactful carbon reductions.
-
Typical questions we will work on together:
-
What are the farm-level emission reduction measures with the highest CO2e savings potential and lowest cost?
-
What farm-level measures can be accounted for according to latest protocols and which do not have enough scientific backing?
-
What practical monitoring plans are required on the farm to account for removals?
-
How does one allocate removals to a product carbon footprint (PCF)?
-
How does one ensure additionality and permanence of soil-sequestered carbon?
You might be really good at this if
-
You have previous experience in developing environmental models, particularly in Soil Organic Carbon (SOC), Land Use Change (LUC) and similar domains.
-
You have a passion for sustainable farming practices, CO2e reduction measures, regenerative farm practices, insetting, removals, and other climate-related operations on farms.
-
You love being the most knowledgeable person on the latest regulatory and climate market changes.
-
You grew up around farms and can empathise well with farmers and their challenges.
-
You have strong quantitative and analytical skills.
-
You want to change to a higher pace, more pragmatic and outcome-oriented work environment.
You don’t feel like you fulfil all the criteria? We get it: confidence can sometimes hold us back from applying for a job. But guess what?! There is no such thing as a ‚perfect‘ candidate. The only thing you need to ensure along the recruiting process and beyond is that the problem that we are solving with Root is one you cannot wait to get out of bed for on Monday morning!
How we support you
-
You will report directly to our founder: Eric
-
You will be part of a cross-disciplinary team consisting of product managers, engineers, climate scientists and customer success & operations specialists, reporting to the country general manager.
-
You will get directly mentored by experts in the field that are invested in our company: Ali and Nils
