Horst Görtz Institute for IT Security: Cluster of Excellence CASA

In order to fill a fixed‑term position in full‑time (39.83 hours/week = 100%) at the earliest possible date, we are looking for several postdocs (2 years) (m,f,x) to contribute to the Cluster of Excellence “CASA: Securing the Digital Society”. The Cluster, funded by the DFG for 2026‑2032 with approximately 43 million euros, focuses on cyber‑security challenges posed by disruptive technologies such as artificial intelligence and quantum computers. Researchers from computer science, cryptography, electrical engineering, mathematics and psychology work together in an interdisciplinary setting at the Horst Görtz Institute for IT Security (HGI) of Ruhr‑University Bochum.

Your tasks

• Attract postdoctoral researchers and enable them to conduct research under the mentorship of a PI.
• Achieve independent research outcomes during the contract, e.g. publications or joint research initiatives.
• Support the interdisciplinary research environment of HGI and CASA.

Your profile

• Above‑average doctoral degree in computer science, electrical engineering, mathematics, psychology or related disciplines (preferably with a relationship to technology).
• Fluent spoken and written English.
• Basic knowledge of one or more of the research areas relevant to CASA: cryptography, system security, hardware security, decentralized security, human‑centered security, AI and security.
• Postdoctoral candidates should have already published relevant papers at leading conferences in cryptography and computer‑security research, as listed e.g. at http://csrankings.org/.

Further information

The position is salaried according to the collective agreement of the Länder (TV‑L). With the required personal and collective agreement, the employee will receive pay grade E13 TV‑L. The place of work is Ruhr University Bochum. If the position is funded by third‑party funds the employee has no teaching obligation.

Competence in German or English and willingness to learn the other language are prerequisites. German language courses are offered by the University Language Center (ZFA).
