We are looking for a Data Engineer to join our OT team, responsible for our gas, coal, and biomass-fired power plants in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, the United Kingdom, and Turkey.

The OT environment includes power plants with PLC, DCS, SCADA, and expert systems, two redundant tier-3 data centers, WAN connections to unit DMZs, power plant DMZs, and links with other data centers of RWE business units and TSOs.

We operate an OSIsoft PI environment archiving process data from most of our power plants, used for real-time process and quality monitoring, offline process improvement, maintenance management, and reporting.

With evolving needs, we aim to store more data and adopt open standards, leading to a project investigating and potentially implementing a new PIMS based on TimescaleDB, RabbitMQ, and Grafana.

About the role

• Maintain the existing PIMS environment and explore transitioning to the new system.
• Design adaptable data architectures.
• Implement security measures ensuring data accessibility.
• Optimize system performance.
• Integrate AI and machine learning solutions.

Job Requirements and Experience

• Experience with time series databases, preferably OSIsoft PI and TimescaleDB.
• Knowledge of timeseries protocols like OPC UA, OPC DA, MQTT.
• Familiarity with OSIsoft PI suite (PI AF, PI Vision, PI interfaces).
• Experience with message brokers such as RabbitMQ.
• Proficiency in PowerShell and Python.
• Understanding of power generation and process control.
• Knowledge of OT cybersecurity.
