What you will do
Actively participate in the origination and sourcing of investment opportunities through:
Ownership for assigned reinsurance markets (e.g. lines of business, territories, transaction types)
Market research to define investable transaction universe within the assigned markets
Management of relationship with producers and sponsors (reinsurance brokers and protection buyers)
Attending industry conferences and representing Schroders Capital ILS
Marketing trips to producer offices
Evaluation of non‑life reinsurance investment opportunities, both in securitized bond format and as traditional collateralised reinsurance format:
Execution of qualitative risk assessment and support quantitative pricing of public 144A and private collateralised transactions using outputs of vendor catastrophe models and proprietary tools
Contribution to investment decisions by transaction triage and provision of initial deal risk and qualitative assessment to Portfolio Management team
Support for Analytics and Risk Management team on post‑event assessments
Presentation of relevant material and recommendations to Portfolio Management and Investment Committee to allow the evaluation of underwriting opportunities
Assume responsibility in transaction‑related legal and contractual work (wordings, slips, trust and service agreements) with a focus on collateralised reinsurance and transactions using third‑party transformer vehicles
Provision of input and guidance to the Underwriting Assistants in the transaction set up and trade capture
Be familiar with compliance processes and contribute to the execution of various pre‑investment assessments, such as ESG, KYC, DD and other screenings
Provision of input and guidance to the analytics team to support monthly valuation process
The knowledge, experience and qualifications you need
University degree (BSc or MSc) in a quantitative, analytical, or business‑related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in reinsurance with background in property cat underwriting
Strong understanding of the insurance and reinsurance industry, with in‑depth knowledge of the property catastrophe market and non‑life transactions
Direct engagement with brokers and/or cedants, including initiating, leading, and executing underwriting discussions and transactions, supported by an established network and active market presence
Fluency in English is essential, German a plus, other languages a benefit
