About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Senior / Principal Utilities Architect & AI Engineer to join an innovative technology company operating at the intersection of SAP Utilities and Artificial Intelligence.
Our client is developing a next-generation platform designed to support energy and utility providers in their digital transformation and operational processes. The role combines deep SAP Utilities expertise with emerging AI technologies such as Knowledge Graphs, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), intelligent indexing, and vector search.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide deep functional and technical expertise in SAP S/4HANA Utilities
- Understand the typical SAP architecture and business processes of energy and utility providers
- Work hands-on with SAP Utilities systems and understand processes beyond a purely conceptual or consulting level
- Bring expertise in areas such as:
- Market Communication
- Device Management
- Billing and invoicing processes
- Metering concepts and related processes
- Ideally, contribute at developer or technical architecture level where required
- Understand adjacent SAP products and technologies relevant to the Utilities environment
Bridge Between Utilities & AI
- Work closely with Utilities consultants to translate business processes, data structures, and domain relationships into structured, machine-readable knowledge
- Develop and maintain Utilities-specific Knowledge Graphs
- Structure domain knowledge so that it can be effectively consumed by AI systems
- Help define and continuously improve the indexing strategy for AI and RAG applications
- Analyze why information may not be correctly retrieved by AI systems and identify improvements
- Act as a key interface between functional experts and the technical AI engineering team
- Explore and evaluate new approaches in:
- Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)
- Vector Search
- AI-powered knowledge management
- Prototype ideas and solutions using Python and relevant Machine Learning libraries
- Evaluate emerging AI technologies and assess their applicability to SAP Utilities
- Contribute your own ideas for how AI can transform SAP implementations and Utilities processes
- Help shape the technical direction of an innovative AI platform
Requirements
Essential Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional experience in the SAP Utilities environment, with strong practical expertise
- At least 3 years of experience working in Utilities
- Deep understanding of SAP S/4HANA Utilities
- Strong knowledge of typical Utilities processes and the SAP architecture of energy providers
- Practical, hands-on experience working with SAP Utilities systems
- Experience with areas such as Market Communication, Device Management, Billing, and/or Metering
- Ability to structure complex functional knowledge and translate it into models that can be consumed by technology and AI systems
- Strong interest in Artificial Intelligence, RAG, Knowledge Graphs, indexing, and related technologies
- Willingness and ability to learn, experiment, and work with emerging AI technologies
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with both functional and technical teams
- Fluent German is mandatory, as the role involves working with German-speaking colleagues, customers, and documentation
- Willingness to travel approximately 30% for customer meetings and team collaboration at different locations
