Second Foundation is a global energy trading company with around 500 employees at locations in Prague (HQ), Zug (CH), Berlin (DE), Charlotte (USA), and Tokyo (JP). We specialize in trading on electricity markets as well as the integration and optimization of renewable energy and battery storage systems. We are actively expanding our own asset base, with a focus on battery storage projects that we support across the entire lifecycle: from project development through financing, construction, and commissioning to operation and marketing.

We are looking for a Working Student (up to 20 hours/week) for our Berlin team at the interface of investment, financing, and commercial asset management. In this role, you will work directly on the financing and transaction processes of our battery storage projects – from business cases and financial models to debt financing with banks and institutional investors to investor reporting – while also supporting the ongoing commercial management of the project companies.

What you would work on?

  • Contributing to business cases and financial models for battery storage projects, including scenario calculations and the critical review of assumptions.
  • Supporting the preparation and execution of debt financing with banks and institutional investors, from preparing documentation and data rooms to handling Q&A lists.
  • Providing commercial support for project sales, M&A transactions, and contract negotiations, including support with due diligence, analyses, and tracking open items through to closing.
  • Contributing to reporting for equity and debt providers as well as supporting the setup and management of fund structures for financing our projects.
  • Supporting project controlling and the commercial management of the project companies, including managing financing needs and working closely with Accounting and Finance.
  • Monitoring project contracts and contractual obligations of our battery storage projects, so that deadlines, milestones, and performance status remain transparent at all times.
  • Developing and implementing automated workflows and processes using AI tools, from idea through implementation to ongoing monitoring.
  • Acting as an interface between Investment, Asset Management, Controlling, and Accounting, so that information flows and processes mesh smoothly.

What makes you a great candidate?

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with a focus on finance, controlling, business administration, economics, industrial engineering, or a comparable field.
  • Strong interest in project finance, investments, renewable energy, and battery storage.
  • Very good numerical understanding and enjoyment of working with business cases, financial models, and data; very good Excel skills.
  • Structured, careful, and independent way of working, along with the ability to present complex topics in an understandable way.
  • Very good German language skills and good English language skills.
  • Initial practical experience in finance, controlling, consulting, banking, M&A, or the energy industry is an advantage but not required.

What we offer?

  • Direct insight into investments, project financing, M&A, and the commercial management of battery storage projects.
  • Close collaboration with experienced colleagues from various fields.
  • A high degree of ownership and the opportunity to contribute and implement your own ideas.
  • Flexible working hours that can be combined with your studies.
  • A small, dedicated team in Berlin Mitte with an excellent coffee machine.
  • Subsidy for public transport ticket and lunch.
