About the Position

Sellers Dorsey is seeking a Proposal Writer to join our fast-growing firm and our shared services Proposal Department. The Proposal Department serves both the Medicaid Finance Sales and National Consulting Practice teams on a variety of solicited and unsolicited proposals.

Prior knowledge of Medicaid Financing is not required, but the candidate should be comfortable interviewing Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and using past content to get up to speed quickly so as to have a functional understanding of the subject matter. The candidate should be able to write quickly and clearly, manage deadlines on concurrent projects, and hone content to create compelling "one voice" documents. The candidate will help to create and populate drafts, assist in the creation of first draft material, participate in color reviews and their remediation, weave in win theme statements, and copyedit. In addition to standard proposal writing duties, the Proposal Writer will also be responsible for maintaining the quality and accuracy of the Content Repository.

Proposal Writer Responsibilities

• Work closely with and take direction from the Proposal Manager.
• Update the Content Repository on an ongoing basis.
• Assist the Proposal Manager in creating proposal drafts based on RFP requirements or established templates for unsolicited proposals.
• Populate starting drafts with boilerplate/prior content.
• Maintain and update boilerplate language and other content on an ongoing basis.
• Assist in the creation of the first draft by editing SME content and/or interviewing SMEs to derive content.
• Ensure proposals respond to RFP narrative requirements.
• Participate in solution design and win theme sessions.
• Participate in color reviews and the remediation of comments.
• Weave in win themes and otherwise edit the document towards a "one voice" goal.
• Coordinate smaller projects such as bids with no formal RFP requirements that require completing a template based on input received from the business practice.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in humanities.
• Ability to identify opportunities to improve drafts by proactively rewriting sections, creating tables, or suggesting graphics.
• Detail oriented.
• Ability to work on a team or independently.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to coordinate small, informal proposal projects directly with business teams.
• Ability to work on multiple projects at once and manage concurrent deadlines.
• Strong editorial skills and knowledge of grammar, syntax, and usage (CMOS, AP, etc.).
• Highly experienced in using MS Word.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced degree.
• Experience with health care industry and/or Medicaid.
• Experience with proposal writing.
