Embedded Software Engineer

Embedded Software Engineer - Freelance Contract As a Software Engineer, you will contribute to the development of safety-critical software for next-generation railway systems. Working in an agile, international environment, you will help design, implement, and validate reliable, secure, and real-time distributed solutions. Responsibilities: Design and develop embedded software for safety-, security-, and real-time-critical railway applications. Architect and implement distributed systems and communication protocols. Analyze complex software and system architectures to ensure reliability, performance, and maintainability. Contribute to technical architecture discussions, design reviews, and engineering workshops. Produce high-quality technical documentation, including software design specifications and architecture documents. Develop, integrate, test, and verify software components throughout the product lifecycle. Collaborate with globally distributed engineering teams using Agile methodologies. Ensure compliance with quality, functional safety, and cybersecurity standards. Required Qualifications: Strong programming skills in C; experience with C++ is an advantage. Experience developing embedded real-time software, ideally for safety- or security-critical systems. Solid knowledge of Linux operating systems and embedded development environments. Understanding of distributed systems, consensus algorithms, virtualization, and networked applications. Proficiency with Git and modern software development workflows. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and collaboration skills within distributed, cross-functional teams.
