Job Description:

Your Impact in This Role

As a part of the sustainability team you will support the Director Sustainability and collaborates closely with the other Sustainability Specialists in managing environmental permitting (BImSchG, UVPG, WHG, BNatSchG, BBergG), coordinating recultivation, and ensuring compliance with German environmental legislation. The role includes close cooperation with local authorities and stakeholders as well as the proactive implementation of sustainability initiatives.

In the role, your responsabilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Support and manage environmental permitting and authorisation processes (e.g. BImSchG, UVPG, WHG, BNatSchG, BBergG).

  • Coordinate environmental impact assessments and studies.

  • Ensure environmental and sustainability compliance; identify risks, liabilities, and mitigation actions.

  • Train and support Operations on permit conditions and legal obligations.

  • Coordinate recultivation, land rehabilitation, backfilling, and site closure activities.

  • Support land management activities, including land acquisition, disposal, leases, and aftercare obligations.

  • Manage and reduce environmental impacts related to CO₂, water, waste, biodiversity, land use, and emissions.

  • Engage with local authorities, communities, landowners, NGOs, and other stakeholders.

  • Implement corporate sustainability guidelines, global programs, and KPIs.

  • Contribute to sustainability reporting, communication, and GIS data.

What you bring to the table:

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in environmental management, geography, mining, administrative law or comparable field.

  • Experience in sustainability, environmental protection or permitting.

  • Interest and willingness to develop expertise in environmental and nature conservation law, mining law and permitting procedures.

  • Basic knowledge of GIS and reporting systems is an advantage.

  • Proficient in German and English (written and spoken).

  • Structured, organised and analytical way of working.

  • High level of commitment, flexibility, teamwork and willingness to travel.

  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
