Sigmund Freud Private University

The Sigmund Freud Private University (SFU) is Austria’s largest private university, with over 6,000 students enrolled in the faculties of medicine, psychology, psychotherapy, and law. Under the motto “teach.research.care,” the SFU stands for excellence in teaching and research as well as social responsibility. With its own outpatient clinics and clinical facilities, it makes an important contribution to healthcare in Vienna.

Approximately 1,500 students are enrolled in the Faculty of Medicine, studying human medicine and dentistry.

The SFU is the first university in Austria to have structured its medical curriculum around Entrustable Professional Activities (EPA)

—clearly defined medical tasks that graduates can perform safely and independently. The curriculum, developed in collaboration with Prof. Olle ten Cate (Karolinska Prize 2026), anchors clinical training in all 18 departments directly within Vienna’s hospitals—in partnership with the Vienna Health Network, the Brothers of Mercy, the Vinzenz Group, and AUVA as partners—and a ten‑week “Contribution to Care” clerkship, unique in Austria, in which students become part of a hospital team.

The Professorship The professorship is associated with the leadership of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. We are seeking a scholar with a proven track record who can represent the full breadth of the discipline in research and teaching and play a key role in shaping its future development. The scope of the specialty includes conservative and surgical gynecology, obstetrics and perinatal medicine, gynecologic oncology, minimally invasive and robot-assisted procedures, reproductive medicine, and innovative diagnostics. Your Profile A completed degree in human medicine and board certification in obstetrics and gynecology in accordance with Austrian or equivalent international regulations Extensive clinical experience and in-depth surgical expertise, preferably in minimally invasive and robot-assisted gynecological surgery; knowledge of perinatal medicine, reproductive medicine, and/or gynecological endocrinology is a plus Habilitation or equivalent achievements in research and teaching, as well as an internationally recognized scientific profile in obstetrics and gynecology, one of its subspecialties, or related biomedical disciplines Proven university teaching experience, including the use of competency-based methods, high-quality international publications, and a successful track record in securing competitive external funding Experience in leading clinical-research projects and clinical teams, as well as in mentoring early-career researchers Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills, and a willingness to closely integrate clinical practice, research, and university education

We offer A permanent position consisting of 20 hours per week in Vienna, in accordance with the provisions of the Austrian Salaried Employees Act; compensation is based on SFU guidelines—with a willingness to offer above-market pay depending on qualifications and professional experience Leadership of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, with the freedom to further develop the field in research, teaching, and patient care An internationally recognized, EPA-based medical curriculum that you will actively help shape through teaching and clinical training—with the university’s own outpatient clinics and research facilities, as well as strong clinical partners in Vienna

The SFU values and promotes diversity and is committed to equal opportunity regardless of age, gender, sexual identity, disability, background, or religion. It strives to increase the proportion of women in research and teaching and expressly encourages qualified women to apply.
