Our Engineering Department is looking for a hands-on engineer to join our team in Cologne to strengthen and scale our quality control (QC) and testing capabilities for critical components used in our biomedical instruments.
This position combines practical technician-level responsibilities (assembly, wiring, troubleshooting) with hardware engineering duties, specifically designing custom test rigs, building testing tools, and establishing robust QC documentation. You will play a pivotal role in bridging daily production support with long-term quality infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Incoming Quality Control: Establish and execute QC procedures for critical electro-mechanical components, including pumps, motors, sensors, fluidic modules, and electronic boards (PCBs).
- Test Rig & Tool Development: Design, build, and validate practical QC testing rigs, fixtures, and diagnostic tools to streamline component verification.
- Documentation & Compliance: Author standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Material Quality Documents (MQDs) for incoming parts in alignment with our Quality Management System (ISO 13485).
- Technician & Assembly Support: Perform hands-on instrument assembly, component troubleshooting, and preparation of electronic sub-assemblies (e.g., custom cabling, wire harnesses, sensor wiring) according to production SOPs.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with the engineering and production teams to drive continuous improvement, component failure analysis, and instrument lifecycle activities.
What We’re Looking For
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Biomedical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- CAD & Hardware Skills: Proficiency in SolidWorks for designing custom test fixtures, mounts, and mechanical testing aids.
- Hands-on Mindset: Demonstrated comfort performing technician-level work (soldering, wiring, mechanical assembly, benchtop measurement) alongside engineering tasks.
- Problem-Solving Instincts: Strong diagnostic skills for troubleshooting hardware, electrical connections, and fluidic/mechanical components.
- Process & Quality Focus: Practical approach to writing SOPs and establishing structured inspection records. Exposure to ISO 13485 environments is a plus, but not required.
- Languages: Good professional English communication skills; German is a plus.
