Reshape the Future of Energy. With Us.

At Skellium, we're not just building better batteries — we're redefining what's possible for electric mobility. Based in Aachen and backed by the EXIST Research Transfer programme, we've developed a breakthrough manufacturing process for lithium‑metal anodes that makes next‑generation solid‑state batteries safer, more efficient, and ready for scale. Think: EVs with 1,000+ km range. That's the world we're building.

We're a small, ambitious team at the very beginning of something big — and we're looking for a Master's student who wants to be part of it.

Master's Thesis | Development of coating tools — Lithium‑Metal Anodes

Your Mission

Liquid lithium is one of the most demanding materials to work with — highly reactive, unforgiving, and at the very heart of what makes Skellium's process unique. You will develop and engineer a slot die nozzle specifically designed for handling liquid lithium under laboratory conditions, taking full account of its exceptional material properties and reactivity. This is a rare opportunity to work on a core piece of hardware where your engineering decisions have a direct impact on process safety, stability, and Skellium's path to scale.

What You'll Work On

  • Develop and dimension a slot die nozzle tailored to the specific demands of liquid lithium processing
  • Account for the material's high reactivity and unique properties to ensure a safe and process‑stable design
  • Plan and execute targeted experimental series to investigate relevant process parameters
  • Derive fundamental optimisation approaches for the further development of the nozzle geometry and design
  • Validate the developed nozzle on the existing production system
  • Evaluate its functionality and process stability under real operating conditions

Who You Are

  • Currently enrolled in an Engineering programme (Industrial Engineering preferred) at a top European university
  • Solid understanding of the battery market and its key dynamics
  • Structured and self‑driven — you take ownership and follow through
  • Curious about complex problems and energised by the idea of working at the frontier of deep tech
  • A team player who communicates openly and contributes to a collaborative culture
  • Proficient in PowerPoint, Word, and Excel

What You Get

  • Real responsibility from day one in an early‑stage deep tech start‑up
  • Direct access to founders and industry experts
  • Flexible working arrangements and clearly scoped tasks
  • The chance to shape Skellium's strategy — your thesis won't sit in a drawer
  • A front‑row seat to building a company from the ground up
