Job Description We are looking for a Senior Backend Software Engineer to independently own the design of backend components for a distributed ground segment software system, covering areas such as system integration across multiple connected systems, secure data exchange, end-to-end monitoring, and service APIs consumed by web front-ends and external systems. You will also provide technical guidance to less experienced engineers within the backend team. Your key responsibilities include: Design, implement and maintain backend services in Java (Spring) and/or Python Develop and integrate REST APIs and asynchronous interfaces towards partner systems, external nodes and front-end applications Implement components for secure data handling, access control and auditability Contribute to end-to-end monitoring and operability features of the system Support integration with existing external systems and their interface updates Write unit and integration tests and support formal verification and validation activities Package and deploy services using Docker and Kubernetes in cloud-based environments Participate in design discussions, code reviews and agile development ceremonies Produce and maintain technical documentation under configuration control Essential qualifications and experience University degree or equivalent education in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline Several years of professional experience developing backend systems in Java (Spring) and/or Python Solid experience designing and consuming REST APIs Experience with relational databases and data modelling Hands‑on experience with Docker; familiarity with Kubernetes and cloud platforms Proficiency with Git and collaborative development workflows (e.g. GitLab) Focus on writing modular, testable and maintainable code Experience with backend testing frameworks and automated testing (e.g. JUnit, pytest) Ability to work independently and as part of a team Strong prioritization and time‑management skills Fluent in the English language Other desirable qualifications and experience Experience integrating heterogeneous systems and updating existing external interfaces Knowledge of security mechanisms such as OAuth2/OIDC, TLS and encryption of data at rest and in transit Experience with message brokers and event‑driven architectures Background in the space ground segment domain or other mission‑critical systems Experience with monitoring and observability stacks (e.g. Prometheus, Grafana) German or French language skills Work Location This is a hybrid role based in Basel, Switzerland, combining regular on‑site collaboration with the flexibility to work remotely part of the week. #J-18808-Ljbffr
