Job Description:

The Employee Relations/Conduct team is a key function of the Global Human Resources & Corporate Citizenship organization and plays an important role in the overall success of the company’s human capital strategy.

Across the globe, institutional investors rely on State Street to help them manage risk, respond to challenges, and drive performance and profitability. Our function provides expert advice on a variety of workplace matters and supports local labor activities across the organization as a whole. In your role, you will strive for commercial and thoughtful solutions while also building people manager capability which ultimately fosters strong engagement within our employee population.

Reporting to the Employee Relations Lead for Germany, as an Employee Relations Consultant, AVP you will provide expert support and advice to the business divisions and corporate functions throughout Germany, Switzerland, and Austria ensuring the effective management of internal and external Employee Relations (ER) matters and ER-related risks.

This is an exciting role for an experienced employee relations specialist with strong expertise in Germany who may have also supported other European countries.

Responsibilities:

  • Support on managing ER activities in Germany and leading on ER for Switzerland and Austria.
  • Identify, research, and resolve complex employee relations issues in partnership with HRBPs, managers, and employees.
  • Facilitate employee relations investigations (performance, sickness absence management, conduct, grievance, anti-harassment). Provide support and advice to investigating and hearing managers to ensure a fair and consistent approach.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders on employee relations and conduct matters such as legal, risk, compliance, etc.
  • Collaborate with and properly manage the different worker’s council bodies in Germany in close collaboration with the HR Country Head.
  • Provide a country view and guidance on respective local requirements with regards to global projects, initiatives, and policies.
  • Be a champion on the latest ER practices and developments, understanding changes in legislation and implementing them, as they relate to ER, where needed.
  • Work as part of the wider GHR team on global, regional, and country-based GHR and/or business-related projects and initiatives (M&A etc.).

Qualifications:

  • Ability to think systemically and consult strategically with all levels of managers and leaders.
  • Good managerial courage: able to have effective critical conversations, using diplomacy and tact to diffuse high-tension situations effectively.
  • Strong knowledge of employee relations as well as local law and regulations in Germany incl. co-determination, and experience of other European countries would be desirable.
  • Demonstrated success in collaborating and negotiating with worker’s council bodies.
  • Experience in working within a global organization and matrix structures would be beneficial.
  • Fluent both verbally and in writing in German and English.
