We’re working with a YC-backed technology company in Munich tackling one of Europe’s most traditional industries: construction.

The company is building software that helps construction businesses digitise critical workflows that are still heavily reliant on manual processes. Having already established strong traction with construction companies, the business is now entering an exciting phase of technical and organisational growth.

You’ll join a small, exceptionally strong engineering team and have significant influence over how the engineering function develops as the company scales.

The role

This is a hands-on technical leadership role for someone who wants to remain close to the code while helping shape the engineering organisation.

You won’t be stepping into a traditional management position. Instead, you’ll be expected to build, solve problems and make technical decisions yourself, while providing technical direction and mentoring to the wider engineering team.

As the engineering organisation grows from a small founding team towards 10-15 engineers, you’ll have the opportunity to influence:

• Technical architecture and engineering standards
• How the team builds, ships and scales software
• Technical decision-making and engineering processes
• Mentoring and development of other engineers
• The evolution of the company's backend and infrastructure
• How the engineering team adopts new technologies and AI-enabled workflows

The ideal person is someone who naturally sees a problem, gets into the detail and solves it — rather than someone who simply delegates problems to others.

What you’ll be working with

The product is built primarily in TypeScript, with:

• React / Next.js
• NestJS
• PostgreSQL
• AWS
• Python microservices
• A monorepo architecture
• LLM-based document intelligence increasingly being introduced into the platform

The immediate technical challenge is less about building infrastructure for its own sake and more about scaling a strong product and backend architecture effectively as usage and complexity increase.

You don’t need to be an infrastructure specialist or have an AI/ML background. Strong backend engineering experience and the ability to understand and influence architecture are more important.

What we’re looking for

You’ll likely be a strong fit if you have:

• Significant experience as a software engineer, particularly on the backend
• Strong TypeScript / Node.js experience or a closely related background
• Experience designing and building scalable software systems
• A genuine interest in solving technical problems hands-on
• Experience working in a startup or fast-moving environment
• The ability to mentor and raise the technical level of those around you
• A pragmatic approach to architecture and engineering decisions
• An interest in experimenting with AI and evolving engineering workflows
• German at B2 level or above
• Low ego and a collaborative approach to working with other engineers

Startup experience is highly valued, although engineers coming from strong engineering environments at established technology companies will also be considered.

The business was founded around three years ago and came through Y Combinator at an early stage. Today, the team is around 13 people and the product is used by 100+ contractor customers.

The company operates in an underserved part of the European construction market, combining a marketplace connecting contractors and subcontractors with software addressing compliance and regulatory challenges.

The company has raised just under $2m and has a healthy runway, giving the team the ability to focus on building the product and organisation rather than short-term fundraising pressure.

The long-term ambition is to become the leading platform for subcontractor operations in construction, with the marketplace creating strong network effects as the customer base grows.

• Primarily office-based, with some flexibility for home working
• Up to €130,000 base salary + equity
• German B2+ required
