Platform Engineer Every team that ships software needs somewhere to run it — and that somewhere is what we build. We’re the team behind SUSE’s Internal Developer Platform: a self‑service foundation, spanning data centres across the globe and the public cloud, where anyone can spin up the virtual machines, containers, and applications they need.
We’re self‑organized, agile, and serious about doing infrastructure right — everything as code, tested before it runs, grounded in SRE and DevOps practices. We’re equally pragmatic about what’s next: we adopt new technologies as they prove themselves and increasingly scale our work capacity with AI agents. Now we’re looking for an experienced Platform Engineer to help us design, build, and run the next generation of that platform.
Focus Areas
Research, design, deploy, operate, and maintain the platform’s core infrastructure services, including the virtualization layer (Harvester, KVM), storage (NetApp, Longhorn), and the Cloud Landing Zones (AWS, Azure, GCP).
Enable internal teams to consume compute, storage, and cloud resources through reliable self‑service, translating business needs into technical solutions prioritised by criticality.
Manage everything as Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Helm, Salt) through CI/CD and GitOps, following reference architecture and cloud governance.
Continuously improve the platform for resilience, security, scalability, and efficiency against evolving requirements and threats.
Participate in and, where appropriate, lead cross‑functional teams — analysing complex requirements, designing multi‑team solutions, setting technical direction, and mentoring others.
Preferred Experience & Skills
Strong experience in Linux system administration and Kubernetes.
Hands‑on experience with virtualization such as KVM and Harvester (KubeVirt), plus enterprise and cloud‑native storage solutions.
Infrastructure as Code and GitOps practices with CI/CD pipelines; knowledge of the Rancher ecosystem and CNCF tooling is a strong plus.
Experience operating workloads on‑premises and in at least one public cloud (AWS, Azure, or GCP), with knowledge of cloud‑native patterns.
Scripting and development in a modern language (e.g. Go, Python, Ruby, Rust) and familiarity with databases (SQL and NoSQL), backed by solid software development methodology, testing, and Git skills.
High initiative, integrity, and ownership, with the drive to challenge the status quo, document and share your work, and give and receive feedback.
For Italy Only – Italy Pay Transparency Disclaimer (Non-Commission Roles)
