About The Role

We are seeking a skilled HR Generalist (m/w/d) with a focus on Payroll and People Operations to join our team in Aachen. This role offers a hybrid working model, combining four days on-site with one remote day per week, supporting a dynamic and flexible work environment. As an HR Generalist, you will be responsible for managing end-to-end payroll processes for our German employees, ensuring accurate and timely salary payments. You will oversee the employee lifecycle, including onboarding, contract modifications, and offboarding, while providing expert advice to employees, managers, and external partners on payroll, tax, and social insurance matters. Additionally, you will coordinate international payroll activities, maintain high data quality within our HR systems, and contribute to process improvements. Your role will also involve monitoring legal compliance, supporting HR administration, and participating in various projects to enhance our HR and payroll functions.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a completed commercial apprenticeship or a relevant degree with specialization in payroll, finance, or human resources. Practical experience in payroll processing and administration is essential, with a proven ability to handle monthly payroll independently. Strong knowledge of German payroll laws, tax regulations, and social insurance is required; familiarity with employment law is advantageous. Experience with payroll and HR software such as DATEV, Personio, or comparable systems is necessary. You should demonstrate a structured, detail-oriented, and reliable working style, with a high sense of ownership and responsibility. A proactive mindset geared towards continuous process improvement is highly valued. Fluency in German and good command of English, both spoken and written, are essential for effective communication within our international environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform independent monthly payroll processing for all employees in Germany, ensuring accuracy and compliance with legal requirements.
  • Manage all aspects of the employee lifecycle, including onboarding, contract changes, and exit procedures, along with reporting and documentation.
  • Serve as a primary contact for employees, managers, and external agencies regarding payroll, tax, and social insurance topics.
  • Coordinate international payroll activities by collaborating with external payroll providers and tax consultants to ensure seamless global payroll operations.
  • Maintain and update personnel master data in HR and payroll systems, ensuring high data quality and integrity.
  • Create reports and analyses to support decision-making and participate actively in optimizing HR and payroll workflows.
  • Stay informed about legal changes affecting payroll and HR processes, assisting in their implementation to ensure compliance.
  • Support broader HR administration and contribute to ongoing projects aimed at improving employee experience and operational efficiency.

Benefits

  • Flexible working arrangements, including trust-based working hours, flexible office hours, and various remote work options.
  • Offices equipped with ergonomic furniture, multiple monitors, high-quality hardware, supported by a responsive IT team.
  • Free beverages.
  • Subsidized meals at our Aachen location.
  • Seasonal treats such as ice cream and fruit baskets.
  • Yoga and back care classes.
  • Free vaccinations.
  • Support participation in company runs and movement challenges.
  • Annual feedback sessions, workshops, seminars, coaching, and opportunities for external supervision.
  • Language courses and participation in research projects are also available depending on your role.
  • Diverse international teams (with over 25 nationalities) foster a culture of openness, with a casual atmosphere, no dress code, and numerous social events such as hackathons, summer jams, Christmas parties, and after-work gatherings.
  • Mobility support initiatives like JobRad, subsidized public transport tickets, and parking and bike storage facilities.
