Tasks You take ownership of the stochastic optimization behind ordering and inventory policy in a growing AI scale-up for the retail sector and model newsvendor tradeoffs for production use You bring constraint and mathematical programming into live operation and help build the inventory simulator and the ordering framework You continuously advance the automated ordering system and safeguard end-to-end pipeline quality, from data quality through to the live order recommendation You own the monitoring of your models in production and ensure robust, transparent results You write production-ready code in Python and SQL on a modern cloud and data stack (GCP with BigQuery, Cloud Run, Vertex AI; dbt, Airflow/Cloud Composer, Git, CI/CD) You use agentic AI coding tools such as Claude Code and Cursor in your daily work You collaborate closely with Engineering, Product, Sales and Customer Operations every day and take on technical ownership early as part of a central data science team Profile You have a genuine operations research background You are strong in stochastic optimization, in ordering and replenishment policy, newsvendor tradeoffs as well as constraint or mathematical programming You have demonstrably brought these methods into production and not only applied them in research You hold a completed master's degree in a quantitative field (a PhD is welcome) You command Python and SQL at production level You are confident working with a modern cloud and data stack, ideally GCP (BigQuery, Cloud Run, Vertex AI), dbt and Airflow/Cloud Composer You ideally bring experience from supply chain, demand planning or the field of perishable goods You ideally bring experience from a startup or scale-up environment You value an environment with high intensity and personal ownership and thrive in dynamic growth phases rather than in rigid nine-to-five structures You have fluent English as your working language; German is not required Benefits You receive an attractive compensation package including equity participation (VSOP) Home-Office possibilities 30 vacation days You receive individual relocation support if you are moving to Berlin Contakt Further details apart from the job description as well as information about the company are available during the application process.
