For the Unit for Data Science in Management at the TUM School of Management, Heilbronn Data Science Center, we seek a part-time researcher (75%) for an initial three-year period, starting as soon as possible.

Your profile
- Master’s in Statistics, Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or related fields from a reputable university.
- Strong mathematical, analytical, and programming skills (Python).
- Research potential with publications in relevant venues (e.g., IEEE T-ITS, INFORMS Transportation Science, SIGKDD).
- Interest in pursuing a doctoral degree.
- Motivation for interdisciplinary research.
Research focus
The candidate will conduct data-driven modeling of transportation systems, utilizing techniques such as high-dimensional data mining, tensor decomposition, causal inference, statistical process modeling, and machine learning. Applications include public transport, private vehicles, traffic infrastructure, and emerging mobility solutions like electric vehicles and e-scooters.

Our group
Led by Prof. Dr. Ziyue Li, our research focuses on spatiotemporal data mining with applications in smart transportation and cities. Our work addresses perception, decision, and explanation in complex transport systems, employing statistical data mining, deep learning, and domain expertise to develop adaptable, interpretable models.
