The Chair of Space Mobility was created in January and is now already a team of 15. Through projects such as SPARK, Solar for Ice to Thrust (S4I2T), the ASCENT hopper and its model predictive and fault-tolerant control, the chair is conducting breakthrough research in space propulsion topics under the strategic headlines of democratisation of space, in-space propulsion for autonomy and sustainability, intelligent propulsion systems, insanely breakthrough innovation, and testing as a service. The Chair has also introduced innovative lecturing methods bringing teaching and research closer together to the benefit of students and researchers alike.
The Postdoc position will be instrumental in advancing research and teaching, helping to grow the Chair and accelerate its success!
Required Skills & Experience
- At the time of appointment holding a PhD with excellent results in disciplines like Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a comparable field of study
- Experience in teaching and student supervision
- Experience in searching for, identifying, acquiring and managing research projects and funds in Aerospace
- Experience in PhD research supervision
Knowledge and skills in:
- Proven ability to identify and solve problems through a proactive, systematic approach
- Ability to work in a team as well as independently
- Mechanical design as well as analysis of structural and fluid dynamic engineering problems
- Fluent communication skills, both in written and spoken English
- Willingness to attend international conferences and publish internationally
Advantageous Skills:
- Space propulsion knowledge with a preference for electric propulsion
- Highly motivated to carry out a research project and to advance a new space technology
- Strong interest in economically sustainable space mobility
- Engineering tools like CAD-programs (e.g. SolidWorks)
- Programming language skills in Matlab and/or Python
- German language level B1 or higher
Responsibilities
Within the Chair, you will be working directly under the leadership of the Head of the Chair and contributing to:
- Teaching and student supervision
- The growth of the Chair and success of research conducted by the Chair through acquisition of projects as well as project technical, administrative, and financial management
- PhD supervision
- University responsibilities such as participating in selection processes of BSc and MSc students
