The Chair Group of Production and Resource Economics at the TUM School of Life Sciences Weihenstephan and the TUM School of Management offers two positions as Ph.D. Junior Researcher in Agricultural and Resource Economics starting at the earliest November 1st, 2023. Initial appointment will be 2 years with the possibility of extension. Salary is in accordance with the German State Regulated Public Salary Scale (TV-L E13 2/3).

Tasks

The successful candidate will conduct cutting-edge research in production, resource and/or general microeconomics leading to an international competitive PhD degree and internationally peer-reviewed publications. This includes participation in selected nationally and internationally funded projects of the Chair Group, such as the EU Horizon projects NOVASOIL or INCITIS FOOD. The candidate will have the option to conduct research related to applied agricultural and natural resource economics, the economics of food systems in Africa, or other production and natural resource oriented areas. He/she will receive high quality supervision from the chair holder as well as senior academic staff and will be involved in teaching at under/postgraduate level as well as funding acquisition and outreach.

Qualifications

The applicants should possess:

  • an excellent or very-good university degree in economics or applied economics (e.g. agricultural, environmental or natural resource economics) or related disciplines
  • strong analytical (i.e. microeconomics, production or resource economics) and methodological skills with a focus on quantitative data analysis (e.g. econometrics, statistics)
  • interest in natural resources, agriculture or the general food system and related technology
  • a high motivation and the ability to work independently with a strong team orientation
  • excellent spoken and written English and the will to acquire a certain working language of German.
