Java/ API Engineer

Description

American Express is hiring a Java/API Engineer to support the development of scalable backend systems and microservices, enabling integration across enterprise platforms including data systems, customer experience platforms, and internal services. This role focuses on building high-performance APIs and distributed backend services, serving as a foundational layer for multiple applications and platforms.

Key Responsibilities

Backend DevelopmentDesign and develop RESTful APIs and microservices using Java and Spring BootBuild and maintain scalable backend applications supporting high-throughput systemsWrite clean, maintainable, and efficient code following best practicesMicroservices & Distributed SystemsDevelop and support microservices architectures that are resilient and scalableWork with distributed systems and asynchronous processing modelsImplement patterns such as circuit breakers, retries, and service discoveryMessaging & Event ProcessingWork with Kafka or similar messaging systems to:Produce and consume event streamsSupport real-time or near real-time data processingEnable communication between services in an event-driven architectureData & System IntegrationIntegrate APIs with:Relational and NoSQL databasesExternal services and third-party APIsInternal enterprise systemsSupport backend services that interact with data platforms and downstream analytics systemsCloud & DevOpsDeploy and manage applications in a cloud environment (GCP preferred)Participate in CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, Git, Maven)Support monitoring, logging, and performance optimization

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $55.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
