Position: Safety Expert for AI-Based Systems

Location: Automotive Technology Division / R&D Lab

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Safety Expert to help drive innovation in the safety assurance of AI-based systems within the automotive domain. This role involves developing and analyzing safety concepts for advanced driving and assistance systems, with a strong focus on compliance, performance, and emerging AI regulations.

Key Responsibilities

– Apply a forward-looking, innovation-driven mindset to explore novel approaches for achieving safety goals in AI-integrated automotive systems.

– Conduct comprehensive safety analyses of AI-based functions in alignment with relevant safety standards such as ISO 26262, ISO 21448, and upcoming AI-related regulations.

– Define, review, and evolve safety concepts and protective mechanisms for AI-powered vehicle systems.

– Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to design and assess system safety architectures for AD/ADAS solutions, covering fail-operational, fail-safe, and fail-degraded strategies.

– Monitor industry developments, best practices, and regulatory trends, sharing actionable insights to shape the future of safe, intelligent mobility solutions.

Your Background & Expertise

– MSc or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, with a focus on system/software safety in the automotive industry.

– Deep understanding of AI systems, including neural network architectures, AI hardware/software platforms, and their associated failure modes.

– Experience evaluating AI systems’ nominal behavior, setting performance metrics, and contributing to performance optimization.

– In-depth knowledge of automotive safety methodologies, including ISO 26262, ISO 21448 (SOTIF), and safety analysis techniques such as HARA, FMEA, FTA, HAZOP, and STPA.

– Proactive and hands-on approach, with strong interpersonal skills to engage and motivate multidisciplinary teams.

– Proficiency in English is required; knowledge of German plus.

– Willingness to travel internationally (up to 25%).
