Copernicus Data Processing Operations Engineer (m/f/d) Ref. No. 20_011
For our customer, EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany, we are seeking a Data Processing Operations Engineer as part of the Copernicus Program.
Responsibilities
The candidate shall perform system engineering tasks in support of the Copernicus Programme. Typical activities include:
- Data Processing Operations: Contribute to raising, processing, and coordinating anomalies, including documentation, investigation, classification, and resolution/mitigation; participate in relevant Anomaly Review Boards. Assist in coordination and implementation of ground segment modifications, including documentation, approval, testing, and training. Participate in data processing team meetings and reviews.
- Operational Monitoring and Reporting: Develop and maintain tools for production statistics reports and support monitoring of data processing activities. Generate Copernicus KPIs.
- Operational Documentation: Create and update design, user documentation, procedures, and operations guides. Perform operational validation and coordinate validation campaigns.
- Interface with other teams and partners: Liaise with external operational partners and service providers.
- Evolution of data processing: Maintain an operational understanding of the ground segment, review system changes, and contribute to system integration and validation.
- Operations Build-up: Support operations setup, participate in validation campaigns, commissioning reviews, and joint test campaigns with partners.
This full-time position is based at EUMETSAT’s premises in Darmstadt, with an ASAP start. The role requires standby and call-out support.
Qualifications & Competencies
Applicants should hold a university degree in a relevant field and have at least three years of experience in real-time satellite data processing systems. Essential skills include experience with near real-time data-driven automated systems, UNIX/Linux, and working under pressure with minimal supervision. Preferred additional experience includes processing of meteorological or earth observation data, validation of remote sensing systems, programming (C, C++, Java), scripting (Perl, Python, Shell), databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL), and knowledge of spacecraft and ground segment operations.
You should be able to work independently, organize your tasks, document accurately, and communicate effectively. Willingness to collaborate with teams and external partners is essential.
