Fractional Business Development Manager | International Marketing Agency
Company: The Plot
Location: Remote, UK, Europe, US, or Israel
Engagement: Freelance / Independent Contractor
Commitment: Approximately 5–7 hours per week initially
About The Plot
The Plot is an independent, international strategic marketing agency partnering with ambitious companies and brands across multiple industries and markets.
We combine strategic marketing expertise with hands‑on execution, supporting clients across brand positioning, digital marketing, content, performance marketing, and ongoing growth initiatives.
Our relationships are built on deep business understanding, senior‑level involvement, and long‑term partnerships.
We’re looking for an experienced business development professional to help us expand our international client portfolio and establish a consistent, high‑quality new business pipeline.
The Opportunity
We’re looking for someone who understands how marketing agencies win business and knows how to turn market intelligence, meaningful outreach, and professional relationships into commercial opportunities.
This is not a traditional appointment‑setting or high‑volume lead generation role.
You’ll work directly with our founder and CEO, taking ownership of prospect identification, outreach, relationship development, and pipeline management.
We’re starting with a focused part‑time engagement, with the potential to expand the role as the business grows.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and prioritize companies with a genuine need for strategic and ongoing marketing support.
- Research target accounts, decision‑makers, market developments, and relevant buying signals.
- Develop and execute targeted business development strategies across the US and European markets.
- Initiate thoughtful, personalized outreach through LinkedIn, email, professional networks, and other relevant channels.
- Build relationships with founders, CEOs, CMOs, and senior marketing decision‑makers.
- Explore referral opportunities, partnerships, and warm introductions.
- Manage ongoing prospect conversations and follow‑ups.
- Maintain an organized, actionable pipeline in our CRM.
- Qualify opportunities and facilitate introductions for senior‑level commercial discussions.
- Collaborate directly with the CEO to refine targeting, messaging, and business development priorities.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of business development experience, with substantial direct experience in marketing, digital, or integrated marketing agencies.
- Proven track record of personally generating qualified opportunities and contributing to new client acquisition for agencies.
- Strong understanding of agency business models, including recurring retainers, strategic marketing engagements, and project‑based services.
- Demonstrated experience developing business in the US and/or European markets.
- Confidence engaging senior decision‑makers and building professional relationships.
- Hands‑on experience with LinkedIn Sales Navigator and CRM platforms.
- Strong research, analytical, and commercial judgment.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage priorities effectively.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Attio, Apollo, HubSpot, or similar tools.
- An established network of business owners, founders, and senior marketing leaders.
- Previous experience supporting the growth of independent, founder‑led agencies.
- Familiarity with international B2B and B2C marketing.
- Experience developing business across technology, consumer brands, luxury, or lifestyle sectors.
What Success Looks Like
You’ll help establish a structured and sustainable business development pipeline built around relevant prospects and meaningful commercial relationships.
Success will be measured by the quality of opportunities generated, pipeline progression, and ultimately new client acquisition, rather than outreach volume or meetings booked alone.
Working Arrangement
This is a remote, freelance opportunity beginning at approximately 5–7 hours per week, with the potential to develop into a larger, long‑term role.
We offer a base retainer with performance‑based compensation, to be discussed with shortlisted candidates.
We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate specific examples of new business they have personally generated for marketing agencies.
