The Off-Track Build Lead is responsible for the safe, efficient and high-quality delivery of the assigned off-track build scope at Formula 1 events.

The role converts agreed scope, designs, technical information and the event programme into a practical build plan and leads the personnel, equipment, materials and specialist resources required to execute the work on site.

The Operations Manager remains accountable for the event as a whole. The Off-Track Build Lead is accountable specifically for successful delivery of the off-track build workstream.

What you will be doing:

  1. Scope & Pre-Event Planning
Understand the agreed deliverables, locations, drawings, specifications, programme and completion requirements.
Translate the scope into a practical build plan covering labour, materials, plant, access, storage, technical information and dismantling.
Identify missing information, unrealistic assumptions or resourcing gaps early enough for corrective action before mobilisation.
  2. Build Programme & Sequencing
Break the scope into clear work packages and establish critical activities, dependencies and handover points.
Coordinate sequencing with the Operations Manager and other event workstreams.
Monitor progress continuously and implement recovery actions where delivery falls behind programme.
  3. Team Leadership
Lead assigned employees, contractors, freelancers and specialist personnel.
Provide clear daily direction, task allocation, expected output, methodology, quality and safety requirements.
Allocate resources according to skill and experience, monitor productivity and address performance issues appropriately.
  4. Design & Technical/CAD Interface
Work with Design to understand design intent and identify buildability issues before mobilisation.
Use Technical/CAD for technical drawings, details, build methodology, connections, fixing approaches and technical problem solving.
Do not independently change approved design or technical intent where review or approval is required.
  5. Materials, Procurement & Assets
Identify material requirements and communicate them early to Procurement and the Operations Manager.
Work with Inventory & Asset Management to ensure owned assets are available, prepared, controlled on site and correctly returned.
Raise shortages, incorrect materials, damage or quality concerns promptly and avoid unnecessary emergency purchasing.
  6. Tools, Plant & Logistics
Determine required tools, access equipment, lifting equipment, vehicles and specialist plant.
Coordinate delivery timing, unloading, storage, build-area access, plant positioning, returns and onward movements with Logistics.
Ensure equipment is suitable and used by competent or authorised personnel where required.
  7. Interfaces with Installation & Compound
Agree clear boundaries and handovers with the Installation Manager where workstreams interact.
Coordinate shared labour, plant, access or site areas through the Operations Manager.
Work with the Compound Manager on storage, tools, consumables, waste and other compound support.
  8. Health, Safety & Quality
Implement the applicable H&S controls, methodologies, venue rules, PPE, lifting, work-at-height and housekeeping requirements in the workstream.
Stop work where it cannot safely continue and elevate significant concerns.
Inspect quality throughout the build, manage snagging and resolve defects before handover wherever reasonably possible.
  9. Scope, Cost & Productivity
Understand the approved scope and ensure additional requests are visible to the Operations Manager before being accepted.
Maintain awareness of labour, overtime, freelance resource, materials, plant hire, logistics, local purchasing, damage and rework.
