Role overview

A small product team is hiring a senior or staff-level software engineer to evolve a marketplace advertising and retail platform into indispensable software for advertisers and retailers. The role leans backend-first across the web stack, blends hands‑on feature delivery with architectural stewardship, and is scoped for a product-minded builder who thrives in ambiguity and ships quickly without sacrificing craftsmanship. Level will be calibrated to experience, demonstrated scope, and expected impact.

Responsibilities

  • Own and ship marketplace features end to end, translating advertiser, retailer, and internal business needs into production software.
  • Work backend-first across Go services, GCP, Postgres, Redis, and BigQuery, contributing to the Angular frontend when needed.
  • Partner closely with a product manager, designer, and long-tenured backend contractor to convert ambiguity into clear decisions and shipped work.
  • Evolve a conventional API-and-database backend toward more scalable async workflows, queues, concurrency, intelligent caching, and clearer service boundaries, without prematurely forcing microservices.
  • Strengthen branch protections, branch naming, CI/CD consistency, automated integration testing, observability, and performance dashboards.
  • Own integrations, data pipelines, infrastructure, and internal tooling, debug cross-system failures, and apply AI-assisted engineering workflows with review gates and verification.

Requirements

  • Track record of independently building and shipping a meaningful production software product in a small, ambiguous environment.
  • Demonstrated success raising the engineering quality of an existing production codebase while continuing to ship features.
  • High ownership, bias to action, strong product judgment and user empathy, technical curiosity, and a willingness to speak up.
  • Comfort working backend-first with Go services on GCP and SQL data stores such as Postgres or BigQuery, plus willingness to contribute in TypeScript and Angular.
  • AI-native workflow: routinely delegates implementation to coding agents and builds verification loops that produce sound outcomes.
  • Pragmatic speed-versus-quality judgment, raising standards without using perfection as a reason to stop shipping.

Nice to have

  • Experience moving a monolith or simple API-and-database architecture toward asynchronous, queued, and more clearly bounded services.
  • Familiarity with Redis for caching and concurrency patterns.
  • Background in advertising, retail media, marketplaces, or other two-sided product contexts.

Benefits and work setup

  • Competitive compensation package with base salary and stock options, including cash/equity flexibility.
  • Employee coverage for health, dental, and vision (gold-tier plan).
  • Unlimited paid time off with a three-week minimum.
  • Flexible office setup (in-office, flex, or remote work from home), with associated stipends.
  • Craftsmanship stipend, paid parental leave, and a 401(k) plan.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
