Senior Product Engineer – AI in Berlin

We’re working with a well-funded Berlin AI startup building production AI products designed to automate complex, real-world business workflows.

They’re growing their engineering team and looking for a Senior Product Engineer – AI who wants to work across software engineering, product and applied AI.

This is a highly autonomous engineering role.

Rather than receiving detailed specifications and working through a backlog, you'll work closely with users to understand their problems, decide what should be built and then take solutions from idea through to production.

You'll have the freedom to work across the stack, experiment quickly and own the products and AI systems you build.

What You'll Be Doing

Build production AI products

Design, develop and ship AI-powered applications used within real-world business environments.

You’ll work across backend services, user-facing applications, data and LLM-powered functionality depending on the problem you’re solving.

Develop agentic AI systems

Build and improve AI agents and LLM-powered workflows that operate in production.

You’ll work on challenges including:

• Agentic workflows and orchestration
• LLM evaluation
• Structured outputs
• Context management
• Retrieval and vector search
• Error handling and recovery
• Reliability and observability

This is about building reliable production AI, rather than prototypes or proof-of-concepts.

Work directly with users

You’ll have direct access to the people using the products you build.

You’ll understand their workflows, identify opportunities for automation and turn those problems into software.

Own the full product lifecycle

You’ll have ownership across:

You’ll be given context and business problems rather than perfectly defined technical specifications.

Ship and iterate quickly

The company operates with short development cycles and fast feedback loops.

You’ll be expected to make pragmatic engineering decisions, get products into users’ hands and improve them based on real-world usage.

Technology

The core technology environment includes:

• Python
• FastAPI
• TypeScript
• Modern frontend frameworks
• Vector search / vector databases
• LLMs and AI agents
• GCP

Experience with every technology isn’t required.

They’re looking for engineers who are strong in their core area, capable across the stack and comfortable learning new technologies quickly.

What We're Looking For

You’ll likely have:

• Strong professional software engineering experience
• Experience building and shipping full-stack products
• Production experience with LLM-powered applications
• Experience with AI agents, agentic workflows or LLM orchestration
• Understanding of LLM evaluation, context management, structured outputs and failure handling
• Experience owning products or significant features from idea through to production
• Experience working directly with users or customers
• The ability to operate effectively without detailed specifications
• Strong ownership and engineering judgement

We're particularly interested in engineers who have worked within startups, scale-ups or high-ownership product environments.
