Thesis Objective
In current mission planning and support systems, a wide variety of data has to be visualized and controlled on geo-referenced maps. Current solutions use single sliders, tick boxes, or edit fields to control the visualization of and the interaction with this data by usage of keyboard and mouse. A new approach would be to use a set of real hardware sliders, buttons, rotaries, or wheels, to allow for a simultaneous control of multiple data items and thereby speed up the interaction process.
The main objective of this thesis is to develop, implement, and test a hardware device which features four motorized sliders, which can be driven to dedicated positions, four mouse-wheels for function allocation to the sliders, and an additional set of buttons dedicated for further to-be-defined functions.
Thesis Expectations
The candidate shall:
- Evaluate and document requirements for the interaction device
- Develop a design which fulfills the requirements
- Realize the design in hardware and software
- Define meaningful tests and implement them
- Document and discuss the findings
