The candidate will work on the trading desk, collaborating closely with traders and analysts to identify power price forecasting models (fundamental and econometric) relevant for commercial decision-making and develop the modelling landscape for the European energy trading team. The power modelling analyst is responsible for the entire lifecycle of an application or model: from research and design to development, implementation, data automation, and maintenance. This is an office-based role in Essen or London.
Role responsibilities include:
- Building and developing the quantitative modelling landscape (fundamental and econometric/statistical) for the European energy trading team
- Working closely with traders and analysts to identify and develop price forecasting models relevant for decision-making
- Leveraging coding skills in collaboration with developers (visualization) and market analysts (trading strategies) to create efficient, flexible models for scenario analysis and user interfaces
- Developing, maintaining, and improving models for stable performance and workflow automation
- Compiling and automating time series data for power market inputs and model results
- Collaborating with IT and Quant departments on tool development
- Producing regular reports and detailed documentation on model development and processes
Qualifications:
- University-level education with a focus on mathematics, engineering, economics, data science, or machine learning; energy market focus is a plus
- Experience in market analysis within energy trading at a trading house, fund, or utility
- Expertise in econometric/statistical and fundamental modelling in a European context
- Strong understanding of power market concepts like economic dispatch, unit commitment, and price formation
- Proficiency in mathematical programming languages (e.g., GAMS, Python, Julia) and databases (SQL, PostgreSQL), including machine learning and optimization
- Knowledge of European energy markets and commodity interactions
- Excellent analytical and communication skills
