Financial Accountant - Renewable Energy
Location: Zug / Zurich, Switzerland
Working model: Hybrid
Industry: Renewable Energy / Biomethane / Renewable Fuels
Language: Fluent German required
Tusk Talent is supporting a fast-growing international renewable energy business in the appointment of a Financial Accountant to strengthen its expanding Swiss operation.
This is an opportunity for an experienced, hands-on accountant to take ownership of a broad accounting function while developing specialist knowledge within the rapidly growing renewable energy and renewable gas markets.
Operating internationally across multiple European jurisdictions, the business is expanding its activities in renewable fuels, biomethane and associated environmental products.
The successful candidate does not need to come directly from renewable energy. We are looking for a strong accounting professional who enjoys working with numbers, complex financial information and Excel and who is interested in applying those skills within an international and growing sector.
The Role
You will take increasing ownership of the company's accounting activities in Switzerland while supporting its cross-border operations across several European jurisdictions.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Managing day-to-day financial accounting and bookkeeping activities
- Preparing monthly financial and management reporting
- Supporting and managing monthly, quarterly and annual financial closing processes
- Preparing and managing VAT filings and VAT claims across Switzerland and other European jurisdictions
- Developing knowledge of VAT requirements in additional countries as the company's international activities expand
- Managing complex accounting files, reconciliations and financial data
- Working extensively with Excel and maintaining accurate financial records
- Supporting accounting processes associated with cross-border renewable energy trading
- Supporting the financial administration and reconciliation of renewable products and green certificates
- Working with external advisers and counterparties where required while progressively bringing accounting activities in-house
- Identifying opportunities to improve and streamline existing accounting processes
- Supporting the wider finance function as the Swiss and international business continues to grow
The Requirements
We are interested in speaking with candidates who have:
- Professional experience within financial accounting, bookkeeping or a related finance function
- Strong practical knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting
- Experience preparing or supporting monthly, quarterly and annual closings
- Previous exposure to VAT returns, VAT claims or VAT compliance
- An interest in developing knowledge of international and cross-border VAT
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills and confidence managing complex spreadsheets and financial datasets
- Excellent attention to detail and a highly structured approach to numbers
- The ability to work independently and take ownership of accounting processes
- Fluent German
- Good working English for an international business environment
Previous experience within energy, commodities, trading or renewable energy would be advantageous but is not essential .
Experience within a multinational business, fiduciary/accountancy environment or organisation operating across multiple European jurisdictions would also be an advantage.
The Opportunity
This position offers considerably more than a traditional accounting role.
You will join an international renewable energy business during a period of growth and help build greater financial capability internally as its activities expand across Europe.
The role will provide exposure to renewable energy trading, biomethane, environmental products, green certificates and international VAT , allowing an experienced accountant to develop specialist expertise in one of Europe's growing energy markets.
You will work closely with senior leadership, including the CEO and Group CFO , and have the opportunity to take increasing ownership as the Swiss operation develops.
The position can be based in Zug or Zurich , with hybrid working available.
