Duties

  1. Serves as a CYS Supervisory Program Specialist with responsibility for supervising CYS direct care staff (minimum of 8 ratios of children in a Child Development Center (Ages 0-5) or 6 ratios of children/youth in a School-Age Program or Youth).
  2. Prepares work schedules to meet ratio and group size requirements, provides program oversight and accountability. Monitors and analyzes adult/participant ratio sheets to ensure proper staffing and supervision at all times.
  3. Assists with recruitment and selection of caregiving staff utilizing Army CYS Standard Position Descriptions. Supervises and evaluates employees based on established performance standards. Ensures timely submission of personnel actions.
  4. Assists directors and training specialists to plan, coordinate, and implement activities and special events that meet the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive needs of children and youth.
  5. Acts as Assistant Director or Director in their absence up to 20% of the time. May work in additional CYS facilities for management oversight during evening or weekend openings.

Requirements

  1. Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of appointment.
  2. Must have Direct Deposit and a Social Security Card.
  3. Meet qualification/eligibility/physical/background requirements for this position.
  4. Must have a current health assessment documenting good mental and physical health, freedom from communicable disease, and immunizations in accordance with Army and DoD policy including annual influenza vaccinations.
  5. A one-year probationary period may be required.
  6. Satisfactory performance, successful completion of training, and demonstrated on-the-job competency are required. Travel to on and off post locations is required.
  7. May be subject to irregular hours, evenings, and weekends.
  8. Subject to all pre-employment checks including a Child Care Tier 1 background investigation.
  9. Successful completion and maintenance of the Crime Control Act.

Qualifications

(QUAL 1) Successful completion of a bachelor\’s degree or higher with at least 24 semester hours in fields appropriate to the position, such as child development, early childhood education, home economics (early childhood emphasis), elementary education, or special education.

OR

(QUAL 2) A combination of education and experience, including courses equivalent to a major in a relevant field plus appropriate experience or additional coursework providing knowledge comparable to a four-year degree.

In addition to the above, candidates must possess:

  • Experience supervising or leading caregivers within child/youth facility-based programs.
  • Experience managing a classroom setting within child and youth programs.
  • Experience implementing and overseeing structured child and youth program curricula.
  • Demonstrated verbal communication skills through training, presentations, or meetings.

Highly Preferred:

Candidates with at least 12 months of experience as a Lead Child & Youth Program Assistant or higher will be preferred. This experience must be reflected on your resume. Applicants meeting these criteria will be referred first.
