Information Technology Specialist NF-04

Duties

1. Installs, customizes, and maintains mainframe operating systems and other vendor software products supporting Registry functions in a z/VM Z/VSE-VSEn and network environment.
2. Provides analysis and implements measures for software/hardware requirements and problem resolution. Implements systems security plans, policies, and preventive maintenance schedules.
3. Offers system programming services such as coding, testing, debugging, documentation, backup/restore strategies, disaster recovery implementations, testing, and procedures development.
4. Assists and guides operations and programming staff. Provides information and instructions related to maintenance and service processes. Runs system backups.
5. Supports ongoing system optimization and problem-solving to minimize interruptions in a mission-critical environment.

Requirements

• A one-year probationary period may be required.
• Subject to satisfactory completion of pre-employment checks, including a Tier III background investigation per AR 215-3, para.2.

Qualifications

One year of specialized system software installation and programming experience demonstrating knowledge in:

• Installation and maintenance of VM and VSE operating system software, computer center processes, operation, and business practices in a multi-platform environment.
• IBM system zSeries hardware and software systems, installing/configuring system software with multiple virtual machines for production/testing.
• Software testing, problem-solving techniques, and disaster recovery strategies.

Additional knowledge and skills include:

• IT security systems.
• Verbal and written communication skills.
• Expertise in installation and maintenance of VM, VSE, CICS, TCP/IP, VTAM, Power, JCL, COBOL, REXX, and Assembler language.

Highly Qualifying Criteria

Applicants with 3-5 years of recent experience with z/VM and z/VSE, including components like CICS/TS, TCP/IP, VSAM, and JCL, will be prioritized. Verification of claims via resume and supporting documents (licenses, certifications) is required.

Proficiency in programming languages such as COBOL, Rexx, and Assembler, and experience with disaster recovery are also highly desirable. Ability to handle multiple tasks/projects and good communication skills in English are essential.

Other Highly Desirable Criteria

• Experience with COBOL batch and CICS applications programming.
• Experience with Virtel products, HTML, Linux, and Java scripting.
