Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic

Summary

You will serve as a Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic with National Park Service. This position is also open to public under announcement CAHM-26-13057909-DE-AKS. You must apply to each announcement separately if you wish to be considered under both recruitment methods.

Major Duties

Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Overhauls, repairs, services and maintains heavy equipment such as bulldozers, graders, snowblowers, 10-yard dump trucks, loaders and other construction equipment including screen plants and crushers Provides preventative maintenance of heavy equipment and vehicles in accordance with manufactures standards, park and GSA policies. Welding repairs on plows, blades, and structural members and fabricating parts from raw stock. Troubleshooting causes of mechanical problems and making repairs. Incidental to mechanic work the incumbent must operate mobile equipment such as frontend loaders, trucks, graders, bulldozers, and dump trucks. First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the step 1 rate. Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work for approximately 11 months in pay status and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year.

Education

There is no substitution of education for experience for Federal Wage System (FWS) positions.

Requirements

Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.

Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.

Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.

Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license throughout employment.

Must possess and maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Air Brakes Endorsement .

You are required to wear a uniform and comply with uniform standards.

A uniform allowance will be provided.

You are required to complete training, obtain and maintain a government credit card with travel and purchase authority.

You must be at least 18 years of age or older to operate government vehicles.

As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you may be required to serve a 1-year probationary period to evaluate your fitness and whether your continuation of employment advances the public interest.
