UNC Greensboro, located in the Piedmont Triad region of North Carolina, is one of only 57 doctoral institutions recognized by the Carnegie Foundation for both higher research activity and community engagement. The Counseling & Psychological Center is a unit within UNCG's Student Health Services. The center provides a wide range of counseling and psychological services to currently enrolled UNCG students, designed to support and challenge students' personal growth, academic success, and emotional health. Services may include short-term individual counseling, group therapy, workshops, psychiatric services, and outreach programs.

Position Summary

Group counseling and/or workshops to address students' mental and emotional health needs. Short-term individual counseling and/or psychotherapy in the areas of personal and educational difficulties, social conflicts, significant adjustment problems, and mental and emotional disorders, including initial assessments and crisis intervention. Diagnose and treat mental and emotional disorders. Appropriate clinical collaboration, consultation, and documentation. Clinical Consultation and Outreach Programs that address developmental issues of students, as well as mental and emotional needs of students. Training of practicum/intern graduate students.

Minimum Qualifications

  • An earned Doctorate from an accredited program in Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Counselor Education, or Social Work.
  • Licensed, or license eligible by the State of North Carolina to practice clinical services within area of competency.
  • Experience with the college student population or knowledge about issues relevant to college students.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in and a commitment to multicultural competence and experience working with individuals from culturally diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated understanding and clinical application of the intersectionality of identity and mental health.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3-5 years experience in a College Counseling Center.
  • Demonstrated proficiency or expertise in working with communities of color, minoritized and marginalized communities, and issues of intersectionality, power, privilege, and oppression.

Key Responsibilities

  • Psychotherapy (75%): Group, workshops, and individual counseling and/or psychotherapy in the areas of personal and educational difficulties, social conflicts, significant adjustment problems, and mental and emotional disorders, including crisis intervention.
  • Consultation and Outreach (5%): Clinical Consultation and Outreach Programs that address developmental issues of students.
  • Training (5%): Training of practicum/intern graduate students.
  • Collaborative and Critical Engagement (10%): Staff meetings and case conferences within the center; participation in professional development; university-wide committees; staff planning, program planning, and evaluation of services.
  • Other duties as assigned (5%): Other duties related to the Center and/or University activities as assigned by the Director.
